Visiting friends near Southampton early next month and looking for a hotel in or around the centre to tie in a bit of Xmas shopping . So far I've narrowed it down to premier inn's at west quay and city centre , both get good reviews .
Anyone stayed at either of these or can recommend anywhere else ?

The grand harbour hotel is nice, if your budget can stretch to it.

West Quay is pretty much in the town centre. There is a holiday inn in Southampton but it is about 5/10 mins driving time from centre.
(M271 J1)
Travelodge even further away from centre.(Lodge rd)

Not stayed at any of them tho.
HTH!!

Work stuck me in West Quay premier Inn. Was alright actually. Decent breakfast, we had a night out got back to find the bar shut so the porter arranged for a supermarket to deliver some beers and a takeaway to deliver kebab and chips. Top bloke.

Lodge Road is better for the finest wine bar and club in town, though, namely Clowns and Jesters.

Jesters. Just make sure to cover your drink... the ceiling drips.

The Grand Harbour is not nice, its on its knees, roof leaks, all sorts.

Jurys Inn is OK and pretty central.

Premier Inns at West Quay and 6 Dials are dependable.

Try the Dolphin Hotel if you like spooky goings on!

If you want to avoid the chains, there doesn't seem much choice in the city centre. Could try Ennios or Cargo although I've not used them.

Lots more choice out in the New Forest but a 20-minute drive into town. Hotel Terra Vina and Bartley Lodge Hotel are both good, just up the road from me, been to a few do's at both.

What's so spooky about the Dolphin Hotel? I didn't notice anything when I stayed?

The Royal Maritime Club in Portsmouth is ace, but not much help if you do want to stay in Southampton.

Between Premier Inn and Jurys, I'd go for Jurys every time.

Don't even look at Travelodge!

Stay near West Quay if you are shopping. Don't bother with Hythe too much bother. I've stayed at Grand / Devere which is nice enough but not worth a premium say vs premier inn for your trip.
