Which songs are the first memories of music you have?
Here's mine but not sung by this lady.
Rains drops keep fallin on my head (Lee Marvin) and Seasons in the Sun (Terry Jacks.)...
Showing my age now I guess...
Strangely, the first song I have a clear memory of hearing was on the radio: "Once in a Lifetime" by Talking Heads
My dad singing Puff the Magic Dragon to us and playing Anji.
Dexys Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen. 5 of us got dropped off at a campsite in the lakes (park cliff) and left for a week aged 15. This played all the time on the wireless. Happy memories 😀
You are my sunshine by Jimmie Davis (the old folk in my family were enthusiastic singers)
Come on Eileen was another from when I was maybe six or seven and Tom that lived down the road's husky voiced older cousin kissed me and told me I looked like Shakin' Stevens.. I only met her the once but she was my first love..
My parents had a pub, and my room was above the jukebox, so I can recognise a wide range of 70's pub-type songs ( though I often don't know who sang them/what the title was ). This makes me less than awesome in the music round of the pub quiz.
Oasis Wonderwall
The man from Laramie by Jimmy Young......
I'll get my coat.....
Ra Ra Rasputin - Boney M
My dad used used to sing 2 little boys to my brother and I when we were very young.
Raindrops keep falling on my head was a favourite too, plus anything by bread, boney m or abba.
My first single was Uptown Top Ranking by Althea and Donna 😳
my dad coming in from the pub on Sunday afternoon and playing Big Tom and the Travellers and other Irish show band music. Hated it at the time but can still remember a fair few of the words 🙂
My mom and dad loved the Carpenters, Cliff Richard and James Last...
My dad used to sing this to me when I was a toddler
My Aunt passed away a couple of years ago and while reminiscing at the wake afterwards, my dad started to sing it and I very nearly burst into tears there and then. Getting a lump in the throat now
My dad getting ready for a night on the lash on a saturday night blasting out Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck .I still love them now !
+1 for Neilthewheel 😀
That and puff the magic dragon came immediately to mind along with Junior Choice!
There were lots of songs on Junior Choice, etc., that I remember, but probably the first song that I can clearly recall as my earliest is this one:
I was probably three, four or five, at a guess.
I was really chuffed to find a download of it, so now I have it to play whenever I want.
A song that made me wonder for years just what a "dance settee" was.
As in
"Dance, dance wherever you may be
For I am the lord of the dance settee"
My boomerang won't come back
The laughing policeman
Grandad
More grown up music...
Bon Jovi - Bad Medicine
Jive Bunny (aaaagh my ears!)
CBIL
A dance settee is the elevated leather surface occupied by my two kids dancing along to the tunes on either mountain bike videos or captain glut's shanty from ice age.
Oldest song I can remember other than TV themes. Was on a tape that my dad played incessantly in the car.
I had the Jungle Book album as a child and listened to Bear Necessities over and over and over and over and over.
Other than that, my dad loved Glen Campbell and the two songs I remember from whatever album he had of his were Rhinestone Cowboy and Galveston. I heard Rhinestone Cowboy the other day for the first time in years - still know it off by heart. 😳 And some years ago, I found myself in Houston for thanksgiving so went to visit Galveston - had a walk on the beach and a little cry. It was a bit of a shithole of a town but it was a special moment.
Cilla Black - Sing a Rainbow. God it may not even have been her, but in my memory it was!
Dave Dee, Dozy Beacky Mick & Titch - Zanadu. We used to like the whip noise!
My Dad had some great records, one of which I was reminded of recently and is awesome:
botherhood of Man - save all your kisses. 1976 i think.
