what works the same way (offline cached maps, preferably nice and cheap) ?

I had a go with BCN a couple of years ago but hated the UI /UX.  Replaced it with Trailforks and Maps.Me.  Combined they don’t do everything I would like but they’re decent enough.

Another vote for maps.me. Easy to import routes into it too.

os maps app. os maps. you can download offline map tiles. navigate etc. £20 per yr. works for me.

I’ve got it on my phone and pad, and the maps are 1:25k and two versions of 1:10k, one more recent but the older version has some better building ID. The street level is superb, down to individual buildings, it even shows a WW2 pill-box by the river outside of town! All maps are free, you can just select an area by dragging over the base map then downloading whichever maps you want.
