The Brentford - Fulham game is a good one, glad I chose to watch this one this afternoon, and now that Toney has got his goal happy to have swapped him into my FF team to replace Nunez.

City will win, they always do but Newcastle are tearing them a new arse with every attack right now. It's like Kevin Keegan ball again but with added defending.

Brilliant to watch. If you aren't and have Sky, get it on now.

Newcastle have had some good managers since Keegan left (and some truly awful ones) but I've never felt so optimistic as with Howe in charge. Yes, when we've bought, we've bought well but recent performances are down to players he's inherited and improved. He's a great coach.

I'm watching the Newcastle v City match, it looks like City don't like it up 'em.

Newcastle won the first half.

This is brilliant to watch. Kyle Walker is being absolutely hounded, Stones looks lost - Howe really has the chance to build something great here.

This toon game is nuts. Haaland is really up to speed now.

Never really followed football much but F1 not back til next week and my nephew is at St James for his first ever match so thought I’d give it a watch. Some game he’s picked!

Brilliant 3-0 victory for Leeds over Chelsea. Was thinking a draw would have been a good result after last seasons capitulations against the 'top 6', but what a stunning performance - Tuchel looked lost for words. I think the pundits' pre-season bets that we would be 4th favourites to be relegated have gone out of the window. All the 4 new signings seemed to have got into Marsch's system and made Chelsea look ordinary for much of the game, despite the vast disparity in the overall costs of the squad.

I wonder whether Kalvin Phillips is regretting his move to Citeh, with a full 90 minutes warming the bench, and Qatar getting ever closer.

MOT / ALAW

I've often thought that City look vulnerable when people really go at them. Missed opportunities and the fact that City will still put 3-4 past you anyway means it hasn't been a big issue for them

Think Tuchel will be odds on for first managerial casualty 22/23, Chelsea just have no idea what to do in the final third, Havertz isn't really a forward, and Sterling just seems lost in this team up front, they put a lot of the blame on Lukaku last season, but it's pretty obvious they're completely disjointed, not good for a manager in his third season at the club and having spent quite a bit of money on new signings.

Good points argee - wonder if the new owner will be as twitchy as Abramovich when it comes to firing managers? I expect they’ll sign a striker by the close of the deadline. Interesting comments by Sterling in the media, seems a bit bitter re his time at City?

Yeah, Sterling is a great player, but has struggled with getting games and in the proper position that benefits him, weirdly you see Jesus has so far flourished with his move, Sterling looks like he's not really fitted in yet.

Hope he does integrate though, he's one of the best when he's on his game, but again, doubt we'll see this at Chelsea until they know what they're doing in attack!

Brendan Rogers is getting the axe, according to some social media rumours

That’s mad if true - they’ve not signed anyone! Perhaps he’s against the likely sale of Fofana and maybe Maddison?

Hard to believe that Newcastle are the same team that played at Brighton the week before! Brighton should have won that one 🤷‍♂️

Think after last season you could see Leicester were needing some rebuilding, nothing has happened, all we hear is that Fofana is leaving, Maddison is having bids, Tielemans is going to arsenal, etc, etc. Think Brendan Rodgers might want to move on the way things are going rather than go through a season of drudgery again.

It is shaping up to be pretty competitive - a lot of the so called smaller teams are pretty good sides and not afraid to have a go.

Eddie Howe has really impressed me. Quite rightly after the game yesterday he said if we’d sat in we would get beaten so they had a go. Hope others follow the template - although get it wrong and City could score 6 or 7!

Read stuff about Tuchel needing time to build his own team. He's only had 18 months and spent over £150m in this transfer window alone...

Well deserved win for Leeds yesterday and seeing Tuchel mumbling about coaches, planes, saying they were the better team etc after the match was beautiful. Confirmation that the guy is a whopper...

Anyone on here not been linked as a player for Man U?

You can guarantee that whoever United are linked with at the start of the transfer window will most certainly never come to Old Trafford.

Wait until the end of the transfer window, when the headless chicken panic mode has been engaged (as it is EVERY SINGLE YEAR) and just look out for which agents are trying to offload mediocre squad players for hugely inflated fees and salaries

For reasons that presently seem beyond reason, other than a morbid masochism, I'll be watching tonights match with a few scousers. I predict that Harry Maguire will be personally at fault for at least 6 of their goals.

If TH continues with this ridiculous idea of De Gea and Maguire playing it out from the back, Liverpool could well get into double figures

Rumours suggest it’ll be Varane and Martinez at centre half - Maguire dropped possibly?

Well with Big Virge coming up for set-pieces it makes perfect sense to play our new 5'2" centre half who was hooked off at half time after being bullied out of the game by Brentford last weekend

Is that any worse than Maguire passing the ball out to the Liverpool attack?

Newcastle were excellent yesterday, but were 2nd best against Brighton even though they got a draw last week. Maybe that will be the narrative of their season, Howe needs to get them to play like that every week, not just when a current top 6 team comes to town.

There are no good options available. Such is the inexplicable nature of our totally disjointed and incoherent squad. More players get bought, apparently at random, with no indication of any sort of formation or tactical set up in mind. Absolutely scatter-gun

TH wants us to play it out from the back. We just don't have players remotely good enough to do that. I remember the hilarity that ensued when Arteta first started doing it at Arsenal. Tonight United could make that shambles look like Barca under Pep

Always the way though isn't it? Most teams can and do up their performance for a visit from a so called big team or a local derby. The big teams will always have a few games each season where professionalism, attitude and preparedness don't get them through. Add in the early season oddness as teams aren't settled and I'm not seeing a big 'closing of the gap'. I agree that Newcastle are on the up but it's far too early to say Chelsea aren't as strong this season or Liverpool, and has anyone closed on city? I guess a few key city players of previous seasons are getting older and could fail to be the players they've been... But on paper they have strengthened filling the supposed lack of a striker they had (of sterling reads this, that isn't meant to be offensive, as I think you're good).

So far I'd say arsenal looking impressive, shame. Spurs not exactly impressing but picking up 7 points they missed out on last season so reason to be very hopeful. Chelsea still to settle. Liverpool too.

I'm still thinking city's title, Liverpool 2nd probably but tighter for 2-5 or 6 than its been for a while. January-march are going too be odd and we won't really have a good idea of what is going on until April. So.... One match at a time.... Forest next, at theirs.

Looking forward to binners' match assessment later.

Tonight's game will be interesting, Liverpool have some big misses, they will need to stick someone next to Van Dijk as Matip and Konate are injured, it'll probably be Gomez, but could be an area of weakness.

Midfield for Liverpool is looking very ordinary these days, Thiago pulls the strings, so his loss is massive, and up front without Jota or Nunez, they'll have to bring back Firminho to the starting line up, tonight's game for me will tell if Liverpool have the squad to cope, still think if they were really wanting to push the boat out, someone like Bellingham would be a great signing.

They should have better cover for Thiago - he never usually manages more than 60% of a season. Regularly injured. Klopp’s shown a lot of faith in Elliot and Jones, I wonder if they will step up. Carvalho too, but he’s more of a forward I think. Keita flatters to deceive - like Thiago misses loads of games and is inconsistent when he plays.

I think it will be closer than Binners et al think tonight. United to go direct with pace out wide.

Yeah, but Liverpool are stuttering in defence and midfield, Milner would be lucky to get a game in the Championship these days, and TAA is a complete liability in defence!

He has also kicked out a few times already this half, reminds me of the game against city last year when he should have received 5 yellow cards, I think refs are refereeing him by reputation rather than his actions.

Trent believes his hype maybe? Drifting everywhere thinking he’s as good as Cancelo? Goals on the break for United if they can keep Liverpool out.

I stuck my usual bet on Milner to get carded. Amazingly it was 4/1. God only knows how it’s not paid out already

I’m finding it difficult to acclimatise to United players actually putting challenges in, pressing and playing great through balls.

Don’t think we’ll have it as easy second half

Bit of a dodgy ending, but ManU were good enough for the 3 points, probably lucky to get Liverpool in this run of form.

Have to say the one thing that makes a neutral like me annoyed is watching Fernandes diving about and feigning injury, he was around the ref all the time trying to get bookings and so on, hate watching that, and he really is one of the worst in the EPL at it.

Liverpool really poor but what a difference Fabinho makes. You could play a wheelie bin next to him - why’s he a sub if he’s not fit to start?

Malaria and Martinez were good for United. Rashford too. Shades of the better parts of Ole’s reign, sitting deep and hitting on the break.
