I’ve said many times on these footy threads that if there were never another game of international football played ever again, I’d do a little happy dance.

I couldn’t give a toss about Engerland, and international matches are, in the main, utterly tedious shite. I disliked the whole thing immensely, even before this utterly farcical orgy of corruption

So I won’t boycotting it as such, just treating it with the usual sneering disdain I have for international football.

They did a bit about this on Radio 5. How much of that is due to the fact that we've never done anything other than disappoint and fail for our whole lives. All we've had is expectation because we do (fact) have the best league in the world - due to all the dirty forriners - and perennial underachieving national teams.

The Brazilians, Argentinians, Germans, Italians (Qatar being a bit of a fly in the ointment obvs) are generally mad for it, on the basis they've got a dog properly in the fight since forever.

Did you really not get a teeny bit enthusiastic during Italia 90, Euro 96, or last years?

I absolutely loved Italia 90 and Euro 96, but after that it was the law of diminishing returns. What really did it for me was the so-called ‘Golden Generation’ capitulating in the most pathetic manner imaginable in South Africa in 2010, with ‘Engerlands Lionheart’ John Terry swaggering about being a horrible racist **** and I decided I didn’t really like anything at all about the set up of Engerland and I wouldn’t be bothering wasting another second of my time with them.

I’m aware that things have improved since then, but I just can’t summon even the tiniest interest in the national squad.

Anyway.. back to today and the Qatar government have just changed their minds about selling beer at the grounds.

Qatar bans beer from World Cup stadiums after 11th-hour U-turn

I can’t think of many sentences that willl ruin your day more than:

“There is no impact to the sale of Bud Zero, which will remain available at all Qatar’s World Cup stadiums.”

😂

Given the controversial nature of the tournament - you'd think they wouldn't piss off a sponsor at the 11th hour.

How do they expect England fans to get drunk enough to pop flare's up their bums?

I find quite amusing that FIFA are about to take a good financial kicking if the major even sponsor cant sell its products or advertise at the grounds.

To me it shows how awful football is that its seems near compulsory to be on the beers to make it watchable

You do know that isn't the reason why people choose to have a beer at a football match don't you?

Edit (unless you are a Man Yoo fan 😉 )

Have you seen Man Yoo’s defence over the last few seasons? I’m not enduring watching that while sober.

And most Engerland games are so tedious, I’d recommend taking acid to enliven them

I got England in the work sweepstake so that would seem to be the kiss of death.

Appreciate that international matches are a bit dull when compared to the soap opera at Man U...

It would be more interesting to spike the teams drinks with acid, shudder to think where your imagination would go having a bad trip in midfield with slabhead behind you.

Even hearing the 'Great Escape' theme these days makes me feel a bit sick.

Might be worth watching to see Maguire repeatedly getting caught out of position or giving away the ball in dangerous areas.

Funny you should mention that. That would explain McFred in the second half of last season

It may work out well for Ten Hag and United. He can get rid of Ronaldo from the dressing room and unify the team somewhat. Hopefully United will sack Ronaldo.

Hopefully United will sack Ronaldo.

If the rumours are to be believed, they’ve already started legal proceedings against him for breech of contract.

He’s making himself look like a right bell end. What a way to end your career.

A bit like the acid idea, I'd propose football games to have a modern jazz interlude, at some indeterminate point in the game the players all stop and mark time, while the player on the ball goes off on a mazy dribble, scoring at both ends, maybe dribbling down the tunnel and onto the food concession concourses...... eventually returning to the pitch to a smattering of applause whereupon the game just restarts as if nothing has happened.

I’ve got the Italia 90 documentary lined up for tonight so I can be all nostalgic and old.

Everything this World Cup won’t be

Well with 1 month to the new year Infantino has given Putin a run for his money in the Lost the Plot award.

There must be an Alan Partridge led recruitment bureau set up to headhunt FIFA morons.

FIFA Boss Infantino telling the West off about being hypocritical about Qatar, we can only hope that all of this will at some time spell the death for FIFA, they just don't care about how they look or act.

A man who is apparently paid $250,000 a month saying he feels like a migrant worker and he understands racism and homophobia because he’s a ginger

Righto

In some rather good World Cup news, the Guardian have got Marina Hyde writing a column in it. If you’ve not read her footy stuff before, she knows her stuff

I'm new to Marina Hyde but will bookmark this.
Out for a beer tonight, ready with selfie to send to my work colleague who's in Qatar.
He used to like beer until yesterday.

Watching the BBC coverage in the build up to the opening game.

Fair play to the pundits and the coverage. They're not reluctant to severely criticise the corruption that got the tournament here, the treatment of the workers involved in building the infrastructure and the lack of tolerance towards homosexuality etc

+1, bit of a catchy slogan but Lineker said he was there to report, not support.

So, first question of the WC. Why do all national anthems sound the same, as in they're all variations on a western style military march? No arabian influence at all on that Qatari one?

Yep, it was good although I do wonder if they'll be on the next flight back home

I hope Ecuador absolutely spank them, 6-0 will be nice.

Probably correct, doesn’t fit with conspiracy theory though…

Ooo, penalty!

OK, wrong but seems decision was right anyway. People forget it's two players between the attacker and the goalline, it most usually is one plus the GK but when he's off on walkabout.....

and now.... he's not made the best start has he?

you grasping shitmuncher

HAHHAHHAHA - it gets better...
And so it is that – game after game – “dignitaries” from this vicious, censorious, homicidal, women-hating regime will turn out to sit in a giant fanny.

Football still has a long way to go when it comes to head injuries - ridiculous sequence of events there.

Yea, that was an absolute farce.

England are so utterly boring to watch, is there a team that plays the ball backwards as much as they do? And I'm not basing that all on the first 30 minutes of this match, I notice it any time I watch them. Also, Jude Bellingham, I really don't get the hype so far he's given it away and had poor touches.

Well that didn't age well did it!
