So, what do people think?

I quite like the dynamic perspective thing, but it seems all a bit too consumerist for me (it's sole purpose being to get you to buy stuff).

I actually have 4 iPhones (or rather bought 4), but have yet to spend a single cent in iTunes....

but it's where the money is (well apart from the markup) it looks like a cut price/subsidised offering so they will make the cash elsewhere. If you see it then it's an open decision.

Apple would like you to buy from iTunes but I think they make more money from the App store.

Anyway, I don't see the attraction of the Amazon phone apart from the fact it's cheap

It's not even cheap - $199 + 2yr contract, will probably = £199 + £40/month 2yr contract when it comes here.

Phone contracts are expensive in the US compared to here IME so it should be cheaper than that.

Seriously?

What's the point in going to the additional expense of buying an iphone (or 4!) and then not having any apps on it?

Or do you just stick to the free ones?

Erm. Not iPhone, but I've got an Android phone and am yet to spend a penny on apps.
Not that I am averse to doing so, but I have always found free apps that do what I need.

If it makes it over here at £150 or a 2 year contract at the £20/month it will be cheap. Even if it's a direct $ to £ conversion it'll still be cheaper than it's rivals.

I assume it's running Android? So that means you'll have access to all the stuff in the market place? Or is it locked to Amazons market place? I only skimmed the article, apologies if I'm asking stupid questions.

Doesn't sound like it will be that cheap.
My Sony Xperia T is £18/month on 3 with 5000 texts, 500mins and unlimited data. Phone was 'free'.

The Amazon tablet locks you into the Amazon stuff quite tightly, so I wouldn't be going for this phone if it does the same.

@muffin_man I misunderstood, didn't realise there was a contract too.

@peter - there are plenty of good free aps with the iPhone, I just had a quick look and I have 2 paid apps out of 50 (angry birds and star walk, probably wouldn't buy either again) WhatsAp I got for free - I have a couple more on the iPad but they are for work

I really wouldn't look at the contract price as a guide. I'd compare that to other phones/contracts in the same market (eg US) and to get an idea how they're going to pitch it. If for example it comes out as the same price as a mid range phone in the US then it'll probably end up similar here, whatever that number is.

Nope, Amazon specific OS with their own market place. They have 1000s of apps but that still far behind Android and iOS app stores. Apparently Amazon are working very hard to convert the Android apps .. ?

Main uses are Email, Texting, Photos, Podcasts and Maps which are all built in.

I have a few free Aps such as Met Office weather. I pay for Spotify Premium (but the Ap is free).

Other than that, nothing else really interests me.

And on that note I'm out

I always find it amusing when people fork out hundreds of pounds for a powerful smartphone, but then baulk at paying 69p for an app. 🙂

Other than that, nothing else really interests me.

1.2 million apps available on the App Store and none of them interest you? 😯

And I thought I was choosy 😀

I like to think I have better things to do with my time than go through 1.2 million Apps!

You do know the difference between the App Store and iTunes?
You could have several dozen apps, some quite expensive, and not spend a penny in iTunes, which is only for music and video.

Sorry, I was indeed getting confused. Can't think of any iTunes purchases I've made either to be honest, but plenty from the App Store

Actually, thinking about it, I did break my lifetime vow never to buy stuff on iTunes and spend 89p buying Ding Dong The Witch is Dead to celebrate the death of Mrs T!

Well, as long as it's something constructive.
