Following on from the pre ride prep thread, is pb on little rolls going to be good for real food on a long road ride?

I get confused with all the protein and carbs and which I should be having!

I take peanut butter and jam sandwiches on my long rides. Cut into squares as they take a while to get down !

When my mate and me did a charity ride (Liverpool to Leeds canal) in a day we took peanut butter and banana butties to fuel us

Not the best sounding, but food of the gods:

Peanut butter and granny smith apple sarnie!

Thank me later

Taste good but not great - way too much fat in the PB. Fat is a long chain molecule & it takes a while to break down slowing the absorption of anything else..

Banana and peanut butter are great after the ride though. Helps you off to sleep something lovely.

Marmite and honey or marmite and jam if you are hardcore. Yum

Peanut butter and tobasco sauce tastes great too. I also like pb and marmite.

Must try it with a granny Smith.

Great ideas, but will a pb and ???? Sarnie be of benefit to me on a long ride or are they better for recovery?

A couple of the pro riders around here (particularly Bob Jungels), swear by jam and cream cheese sandwiches for during a ride.

Peanut butter and jam, or jam and cream cheese bagel. Wrapped in foil so it doesn't get sweaty.

Just finished baking a batch of Nigella's breakfast cereal bars. Can add peanut butter to them if you want a bit more of a savoury taste. Keep better than a sandwich as well.

Get the 'Feedzone Portables' book if you're wondering what real food to eat while on your bike.

I looked at that book and decided against it because:

- A lot of recipes are rice cakes. Just the flavours change.
- Stupid American measurements.
