Whilst walking thro the town said scratch card was blowing around in the wind, I walked past it and thought to myself that's not been scratched. About turn pick it up and pocket it.
A five pound one at that 😯 do people really spend a fiver on these things?
Got home later and scratched, its a winner, at what value would you feel guilty?

I wouldn't feel guilty for any value.

when the amount required you to contact Camelot to claim the win and they asked when and where you bought it !

There's no way to trace the original owner, so I'd feel no guilt at all about it.

I'd feel a bit guilty for the eejit that lost it, but the fact that there's no realistic chance of tracing it to its owner would soon assuage that.

It was discarded and you found it, no reason to feel guilty. Anything over a fiver would keep me chirpy all week though.

Just around the corner from where you found it, was an old woman slumped in an ally, alone in the cold close to death.

The card belonged to her you BASTARD!

Well she couldn't have spent it if she was dead so I saved her family that one "will" problem.
My thoughts also turned to Camelot and how I couldn't remember where I'd bought it from. Reckon itd be scratch it, leave it a month or so then say we forgot we'd bought it, now can we claim our 100k for the next 12 years.

I was behind a bloke at the counter in ASDA to other day, he bought eight of them, at *ten quid* a pop.

How does that work then? You're supposed to hand it in to the police?

Are scratchcards traceable?

£15?

Buy three scratch cards and leave them lying around in the street.

Then keep your eyes peeled for big winners being mentioned in the local news.

It's called suicide lottery.

Case law please? It's only theft if you didn't take reasonable steps to return it to the owner. If scratch cards are not traceable how would you be expected to do this? Lottery tickets a different matter.

At £15 I'd feel a little bad for the poor sod that lost it, but that would soon pass as I cashed it in at the shop. If it was £15k it would be a different matter (because it would have to go through winalot rather than a shop)!

Lots of case law there for you to look at.

Could probably save a lot of time and money by simply amending that to 'finders keepers' 🙂

Law of the playground 101.

Stricty Silver has gone from 9-1 to 5-1 on Betfair this morning. You know something Rudebwoy?

Big Baz is still a HOT favourite.

only that Big Baz is over priced and Strictly Silver is under priced-SS has form in the book many times --BB is a twice raced horse with unknown potential--however his last run, the runner up got beat easily in a low grade race on sat--whereas SS has the t shirt....just my opinion-obviously there are others who concur hence the price movement..

No problem with keeping it, it would be very hard to locate and prove the "owner", however if you want to mitigate that give half to your chosen BDE (Beer Despensing Establishment) to ease any small pangs of guilt you may have.

Or by a subscription to STW with it..

Loads of very old case law there, still not aware of anything relevant to scratch cards. Never bought one but if they aren't traceable then its equivalent to finding a fiver in the street ie. Not theft as no reasonable steps available (would you go to a police station to ask if you're fiver had been handed in?).

On a positive note, my brother left £6K of pro camera gear behind at some remote picturesque spot. Someone found it and drove it an hour to the nearest police station to hand it in.

It'll have a serial number on it, so you can tell where it was bought from and the approximate date it was sold. Store camera to identify the purchaser.

Maybe they got religion on the way home and threw it away?

I think they, like lottery tickets are 'bearer bonds' so unless you write your name and address on them in the spaces provided, they can't identify the owner so can't prove it's not yours.

Nb. Not a lawyer.

I can see it now on Crimewatch....

"man wearing hoodie buys scratch card caught on cctv, please help find this man"

There would be a queue 3/4's of a mile long and it would include Grannies, Kids, folks in Wheelchairs and Wiminz too.. 😆

Identifying anyone in these circumstances is moot, but I can see the Police effort in this being huge as there is <.00000004% chance of conviction of theft and crime stats will come down as a reflection of efficient Police time spent on the crime being negligable...

Or not.. 😆

err -thats gambling --you should only gamble what you can afford to lose--sorry -fwiw i lost a lot more--or lent --the horse was hampered at the start and carried wide-not ideal on a turning track--jockey made his move and got the lead but was headed inside the last 200yds--the only consolation is that the even money fav came third....i shall back strictly silver next time--the odds are likely to be twice todays...

I bought a few £10 or £5 scratch cards once, gave them as a wedding present to a friend. Assumed they had enough toasters and £50,000 each year for life* would be more help in setting up a family.
