I thought this was going to be simple- the Lib dems sent me a form for a postal vote at home, I was going to fill that out, send it home and have done.

Then, i came back up north and now I have a local polling card.

So, where do I vote?

Also, am I properly registered to vote? I know I've got these two things, but am I registered or do I have to do that too?

It makes deciding who to vote for seem easy 🙄

When I was a student I got sent polling cards to my address in Manchester and also to my parents in Sheffield (I didn't bother with a transpennine trip just for the novelty though).

Oddly though I never paid poll tax because Manchester thought I lived in Sheffield and Sheffield thought I lived in Manchester. I wonder if they'll ever catch up with me?

Legally you can use one or the other. Not both.

I wrote to the local electoral commission when I was at uni and the same thing happened, and pointing out the potential for fraud. They didn't exactly enamour themselves to me when they replied - instead of discussing ways of minimising the risk, they threatened me with fines/prison/dismemberment etc if I used both votes.

Surely threatening you with, fines, prison, and chopping you up in pieces, was "minimising the risk" of you voting twice ?

😕

If you're home I'd go with the polling card at the polling station.

ernie_lynch - absolutely. I was just surprised at the apathy towards the loophole in the first place.
