Has anyone got the new OSX 10.6, Snow Leopard yet?

Just wondering if the 'under the hood' improvements made any noticeable difference to performance?

I'm using it at home and work.
My Macbook pro at home seems to start up and shut down really, really quickly!
Safari 4 is good-loads up sites very quickly and the cover flow style 'top sites' feature is pretty good.

expose is better organised and so is the way the dock works.

Nice, I'm on a MBP too so may be worth the upgrade.

An apple tech who was sorting my hard drive up said that it did noticeably improve speed of processing, start-up and shut-down, docs opening and closing. All in all, a pleasant experience. He did mention that were we using CS3/CS4 (we are) that there were some glitches that needed ironing out yet so not to upgrade yet. Macrumours will have the latest on it I guess.

Wonder if Mastiles has upgraded yet? He'll be using CS so may know more.

We haven't updated yet - we will sit back for a few weeks and see what fallout there is before updating.

we're about half-way through upgrading the machines here. All good so far, those with SL rave about it.

Start up and shut down times? Who cares.

I think I reboot my macs bi-monthly at best. The great sleep implementation is one of the main reasons I use macs.

Safari cover flow - it was there in leopard too....

I am looking forward to being able to sort in column view though.

(also not upgrading till it settles down, need my macs to work)

I should have said I was using a fairly liberal interpretation of the word "we". Mrs deadly is the one that uses it.

The fans failed on our 18 month old iMac last week. Hard drive cooked and needed replacing. Only way guy could get our data was by leaving it in a freezer (not the whole computer, just the hard drive) for a few hours, then transferring until too hot again. Thankfully, got everything off...worrying times for up slack back-uppers.

I have been using CS4 at work with it for around a week now and haven't had any issues.

As long as you're not using Photoshop, or want to save from PS you should be ok!

I'm still waiting for my copy...anyone else received theirs through the "up-to-date" scheme?

I did it at the weekend and even though my MBP was quick before, it does seem noticebly faster with 10.6. Stuff opens quicker and it does shut down more quickly, although I don't tend to shut mine down very often.

I know onyx doesn't work on it yet (update coming soon) but iStat pro works, not tried clamavx yet, latest firefox works fine. Hoping Logic 8 will work ok as I have some demos to do soon! Lots of drivers to update for audio interfaces though. 10.6.1 update already out.

The massive increase in speed of loading thumbnails in finder has been worth the cost alone for me.

Entourage seems buggy as now though, seems to crash at will when downloading attachments. CS4 seems to running sweetly.

Aside from the thumbnails thing, not seeing any performance increase (24" 2.4 intel core 2 duo iMac)

I've had it on my MBP since launch and have had zero issues with it. I don't use PS, but have a ton of other apps that work with no problems.

So far so good, the 10GB of space returned was welcome

Dudley, is that reclaimed 10GB as a result of upgrading from 10.5.x (not sure what the last release of Leopard was... .11?)

Looks good but I think I will wait a while for the dust to settle before upgrading. 10g of space freed up sounds pretty good!

POSTED 1 HOUR AGO # REPORT-POST

Is that not just because they changed from base 2 to base 10 (what the HD manufacturers use) to report drive size and not an actual smaller install footprint?

Waking up from sleep is super-fast, but everything else seems much the same speed-wise. The slowest thing now is the external monitor waking up from sleep more. 🙂

Base 2/10 is an interesting issue, as is the new Apple font/PS save bug/dock bug.

Likewise above, I'll wait for 10.6.1 before upgrading!
