Moab - I don’t think there’s actually a portal to submit video to in Scotland is there? I’ve assumed (but it’s a guess) that this was because we seem to make a meal of corroboration of stuff up here. That doesn’t mean you ACTUALLY need two cops to collect the video and take a statement etc - but because it requires a bit of effort from both the cops and the prosecutor to know what needs corroborated, when and how the easy option is to do things the way they have for the last 50 years.

From the thread title though I was dreading that a dashcam reporter had been tracked down by the reported party and been subjected to violence.

I've been watching a lot of these fly-on-the-wall cop shows of late, in a "there's sod all else on and I want to take my brain out for an hour" sort of way. A lot of it is dashcam footage. After seeing some of the horrors I'm tempted to get one myself.
I do wonder how long it'll be before they become factory fit as standard. I already have a rear-facing camera for reversing, seems silly not to repurpose it when driving. The front has a forward sensor array which would rival the Enterprise and I'm driving a Seat not a Constellation-class starship.

I keep toying with the idea of getting a dashcam, but I’m doing less than half the annual mileage I was doing eighteen months ago, 4850 according to the mileage from last year’s MOT, so about 5000 by the time my car’s MOT’d in a couple of weeks or so; it was closer to 12,000 previously.
Loads of noisy cars “cruising” around my local area. The usual stuff, clapped out fiestas and corsas with a ramshackle Halfords exhaust hanging off the back.
The fastest cars nowadays make no noise at all, however.
Did a ride leader course at the weekend and a boy racer went past with a snap crackle and pop. I caused some disruption to the group by forgetting to disconnect my mouth from my brain and I said "I wish my penis was that small."

There is draft legislation/requirements being looked at in several markets. Both for parked cars (sentry mode for insurance type stuff) and external/internal cameras for moving vehicles, there is already a framework of sorts in place for internal camera monitoring in a couple of markets in the event of a serious (airbag deployed/seatbelt tensioners fired) crash.
It's all very drafty though, as there are massive issues around GDPR type stuff and self incrimination/5th amendment etc in multiple markets.
Pulled into the outside land and stuck on the rear bumper of a Polestar. One blip of the pedal and the Polestar would have been gone into the distance.
Was much more fun in the early days when most people didn't even recognise most EVs. XC40 BEV protos for instance, just looked like dumpy mini SUVs (usually with T2 badges). Much (perfectly legal) fun could be had with the pop bang guys and girls.

Ive also uploaded an incident to West Sussex's snap website when a horsebox van close passed me, then turned left directly in front of me, within a day i had a reply saying they had spoken to the driver and offered them the choice of points or a driving course, they chose the driving course
It does annoy me that Hampshire Police do not inform you what happens after you have submitted your footage, you have no idea if its making any difference
There really needs to be benchmarking and standardisation on this (in England at least). I think DCS Andy Cox who’s a prominent voice in favour of dashcams has said there should be feedback as a) a NIP encourages further reporting and b) if people are told why not, then it improves quality.

In the Polestar I've got a Garmin Mini 2, just because i wanted the smallest decent camera I could fit BESIDE (not below) the rear view mirror gubbings..
There is a camera called a 'fitmax' that actually clips into the plastic around the mirror, so sits centrally and looks OEM, but i prefer brand names for things like this.
In teh leaf i had a top range Nextbase (622? I forget). The Nextbase was bulkier and had a screen. The image WAS better quality, but the Garmin is soo tiny, has a wide FOV, and i think the voice response is better. I.e "garmin, save video" is just instant.

I'd agree there's no convincing argument to get it, other than "i want it"!! Car still drives the same, it's just got even MORE pull!

Seems to come in at £235 oince you add the hard wire kit and fiting cost...but looks a bit bulky so im looking at other option for simmilar money...would want front and rear though as I figure may aswell get both as a kit..?

FitcamX. I’ve got one of their front and rear setups. It’s just as good as the Blackvues I’ve had in other cars. Convenient to get footage off as well, you can just pop the SD card out the side, although it does have the obligatory WiFi connected app. Well made, and really does look like part of the car once fitted
Only thing I miss about the Tesla builtin stuff was the ability to just tap a button on the screen to save a clip. Made it a lot easier to find stuff post-drive.

I still think a driving refresher course every 5 years would be great, I do about 50k miles a year and the amount of idiots on phones or just being cretins is astounding

Fame at last- Hubby and I had a close pass riding our tandem on a narrow lane (over the moors at Ludworth near Hayfield). Even though we slightly pulled into a layby, she close passed us (I scream). The cyclist coming the other way was forced to dismount into the grass verge.
Further along, the couple have parked in the entrance of a farmers field. Five minutes later they pass us again, the male passenger leans out of the window, says 'wots yur problem? ' Calls hubby a w**ker 5 times. says we're a couple of gays on a stupid 'pussy' bike all the while filming us on his phone. Look out for us on youtube/tiktok or some other social meeja on a screen soon. We have got a camera, but whether GM police will do anything I doubt it.

I wish I had it today...just saw a procession of maybe 20-30 riders on quads, Moto-X bikes and Suron type things pulling wheelies and all over the road, none looked road legal, and a lot were also 2's up with balaclavas/snoods and no helmets. On the main road from brighouse heading toward huddersfield.
I was going in the opposite direction and there were a few times when I thought some of them were going to veer into the other side of the road..absolute mayhem.
There was even what I would call a 'proper motorcyclist on a proper motorbike' infront of me, and he was just shaking his head at the spectacle... I wouldn't be supprised if a few of them end up as pavement pizza today.

She was stopped by PC Lee Butler, who issued her with a £30 fine as part of a Northumbria Police drive against food or drink at the wheel.

Managed to avoid purchasing a dash cam so far but Aussie Dash Cams keeps coming up on my YT feed and honestly, I think it's time I got one. Saw the clip of a guy in his 4by and a little kid runs out from between parked cars. Driver did well to stop but it could have been worse and how do you prove you weren't going too fast, distracted or not paying attention should this end up in court?

As I can see from the office window as they figure out how a car and motorbike have collided and blocked the tram route south of Nottingham city centre.
So i had a couple of incidents on a ride last week
I uploaded them to the Sussex Police website last Friday and had an update on one of them earlier this week
The 1st incident was when i was close passed by a car (wing mirror felt less than 30cm from my arm) because the driver saw a gap between the oncoming van that had just passed me and the car that was following a bit further behind the van, he made it through the gap but was very close to me
2nd incident i was travelling downhill at 30mph in a 30, car behind me crosses a double white line to overtake me (gave me 2 metres of space) but they misjudged the oncoming traffic and almost had a head on collision with the oncoming car which had to brake and the overtaking car only just missed them
The police website update says
This report has been set to prosecution. This means the driver will either be offered a retraining course, given a conditional points and fine offer or sent to court.
Now im not sure what incident this is for as i never wrote down which case number relating to each incident so have no way of checking, the other incident is showing as case pending
My very limited experience is that if the video shows another vehicle having to take avoiding action, the police take it quite seriously. Otherwise they need to have driven to the pub with your as a bonnet ornament before they’ll even think about acting.
