Had some wally (haven't used that word in years! Love it!) try to drive me off the road a week ago...
Dual carriageway, 40mph limit... ALL traffic going 40, side by side. Wally (there it is again) zooms up behind me, gesticulating to either disappear or hover (only options he'd have had to get past me as there was a truck beside me)... This goes on for about a mile. Then the truck beside me pulls forward as it speeds up.. loony behind me then zooms to undertake, again gesticulating at me for, I guess, existing in the time and space they wanted to inhabit?...lorry applies brakes (prob realizing it's speeding) and the berk (bringing out all the classics today, aren't I!) lurches forward, pulls into my land and overtakes the lorry, but forces me to emergency brake and swerve (not sure how much was me, or how much was the car doing it!)...
Dashcam bleeps to record incident...
Wally joins the queue of traffic in front of us. Well done... One space gained. One crash nearly happened.... Sigh...
Anyway.. I thought I'd upload the footage to "operation crackdown" as this was more than just an accidental lane change.
24 hours later I've received an email saying they'll send a NIP to the driver. Result!
I guess this means they've already had a few submissions under their reg, as apparently the submission won't even get opened unless there's been a few ticks against a driver?
Obvs not going to upload the video here until 'case closed', but it's an interesting result, and a worthy reason to have a dashcam I guess..
DrJ (going by an alias as per witness protection advice....)
What a bunch of wazzocks.
And pillocks too.
If only plod went as concerned about cyclists
What a berk (him not you).
You're right, trying the old words on for size feels good.
Debated getting dashcam(s) - it feels all a bit after the fact.......your charred body found grimly clasping an SD card for retribution. But silly billies exist out on our roads.

...and lie to insurance companies. It might help someone else out too
What a plonker.
Proper wazzock
If it's bad enough, they'll take action on the first report.

Several of my clubmates have quite a high success rate uploading video. Derbyshire Police seem to be able to issue warning letters within a couple of hours, Leicestershire are a little slower but seem to send more on awareness courses or NIP.
moab and ghill 🙂
Sounds like a right div!
I sent one in last week - a motorbike overtaking me going around a right hand blind bend, crossing a solid white line to do so.
It’s a section of road with lots of bends one after the other. Maybe it’ll make them think twice in the future and avoid taking themselves plus potentially others out.
I also had another one yesterday - coming out of a village on to NSL section, a car behind decides to start an overtake just as we pass the sign. Of course I’m already accelerating up to 60 by then and the car behind can’t even keep up let alone overtake. It would also have been a dangerous, stupid place to overtake as there were blind bends shortly ahead and I’d have had to stay at 30 until he’d passed to make it remotely safe. Queue him tailgating and making “hand gestures” at me for a mile.
By the time I got home I wondered if I’d done something wrong - he’d been stuck on the wrong side of the road maybe. the rear camera was useful for that - he hadn’t even signalled, and only got as far as two wheels over the centre marking, and didn’t even close up to my car much let alone start to get alongside. If anything it doesn’t even look like an overtake attempt, just him driving briefly out of lane. So I’m happy i wasn’t in the wrong - I guess he’s just used to bullying his way along and probably annoyed at being out accelerated. Anyway I’ve kept that footage just in case.
Oh, I did somewhat foolishly get out of the car at the next T junction to calmly explain that I was not trying to annoy him, it was just bad timing but he went from my angry with the hand gestures etc to locking his door and refusing to wind the window down. So much for all the aggression from within his car. Maybe, just maybe he’ll refrain from this behaviour towards future people who he perceives have wronged him. Yes i know that was a stupid thing to do as he could easily have been a psycho spoiling for a fight.
I plan on getting one for the car, have one on bike and only last week started uploading videos. 3 loaded last week,
already had email saying 2 getting taken forward for dangerous/ close passes. Pretty pleased with that.

Thames Valley Police are completely and utterly useless!
Is it operation:crackdown for ALL police forces?
Or are they different names for different areas?
DrP
Is there a Scotland equivalent?
I've considered a dashcam because the berks out there do wind me up, but then inadvertently catching myself/drivers of my car out is also a risk. Of course, I can't talk about past examples in that area.
It's Operation Snap in Northamptonshire

You don't get direct feedback unless more information is required from you, but they do publish a list of each months
submissions and the outcomes so you can go back and see what happened.
Can we vote thread of the week, based on the offensive language being toned back to the 2000's
2000's? Definitely more like 80's. I remember a friend using "Berk" in a similar aged context back in the 00s maybe even 90s.
its a shame theres no portal in Scotland - made a 101 report of a left hook, followed by a confrontation and two further 'punishment' passes by the same bloke. It took 2 officers and at least 2 hours of their shift to deal with it, visit to me, visit to the perp, follow up visit to me.
The visit to me included two watch throughs of the helmetcam footage and a statement. Could have all been dealt with much quicker (IMO) online.
Berk isn't actually toned down. It's cockney rhyming slang for something you'll have to Google yourself, or I'll get banned.
I've sent a few dashcam clips in over the years. In Cheshire it has to be accompanied by a formal witness statement which is a bit of a PITA.
Is there a Scotland equivalent?
In theory, yes. And lots of shiny Facebook posts for numpties to froth over.
The reality: in the last three years I have had two incidents on a bike - one was pushed and shoved by an irate driver who drove straight at a group of kids on bikes and objected to me shouting at him, a second one where a car did a dangerous overtake then objected to the fact that I was behind him and tried to block the road to shout at me for not using (a non-existent) bike lane. In both cases car MOT was out of date...
In both cases Police Scotland declined to act as it took too many resources to action it.
So on paper, yes, reality. Nah.
In Cheshire it has to be accompanied by a formal witness statement which is a bit of a PITA.
This should be an easy win for police forces but several of them are (anecdotally) working hard at making it difficult, not resourcing properly or inconsistent decision making. Really should only need video, date, time & location. I’d seen some stuff on the hellsite about moving to a national portal which might make things a bit more consistent.
I've a pretty good success rate with GPM, cheshire less so. they were more concerned about me clipping a hashed area than the guy that overtook and then came to a halt before pulling into his drive 😐
When we switch cars I am definitely using my STW discount to get that front and rear Garmin dashcam setup. There's so many absolute weapons racing around all over the place.
Been offered a dashcam for free, thought I wouldn't bother as I don't drive much, but its worth it to catch spanners like this 😀

Is it buggery.
You could say that about a lot of words that don't even register as swearing these days.

My OH inherited y old Nissan Leaf which I'd hardwired a dashcam into.
She's removed it.
For "reasons".... sigh

Is it buggery.
Close.
Who lets these spanners out on the road?
Met Police seems reasonably good at responding to very clear offences reported through their online traffic crime reporting thing. I have some sympathy if they don't take action on every bit of wobbly low res helmet cam footage.
Berk and the First syllable of Berkshire don't rhyme.
You're berking up the wrong tree there...
... a car behind decides to start an overtake just as we pass the sign. Of course I’m already accelerating up to 60 by then [...]
By the time I got home I wondered if I’d done something wrong
You might or might not have done (I wasn't there), but bear in mind rule 168:
Rule 168
Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you.
Yep - I am conscious of that, hence why I went back to take a look at the footage. I was driving as you would expect - going from a 30 to a NSL of course I’d accelerate. I was already starting to accelerate when the bloke behind pulled out. No use of indicators (he should have indicated to show his intention) and it wasn’t clear that he was intending to overtake until i has already started picking up speed, and he never even actually caught up with me, let alone actually started the overtake. It did occur to me to slow down / stop accelerating but then there is the chance of his running into the back of me as at no point was he actually in the other lane. So it’s bit “six of one half a dozen of the other”.
There's some sort of hunt in Berkshire isn't there?
Surprised nobody has asked the question - OP, what make of car where they driving?
Placing all bets!!!
BMW 2-1
Audi 3-2
Battered Ford Transit 5-1
Reliant Robin 100-1
VAG Group Spread Bets available
"Surprised nobody has asked the question – OP, what make of car where they driving?

Teslas seem to have pretty short odds for the 'being driven by a twunt' stakes, company cars I guess.
I had an interesting day with the police recently as an observer in the HGV cab they're using to spot wrong 'uns. Half of the time was in the cab and the other half was in an unmarked Volvo being directed by the cab, so following up whatever they spotted. Amazing how many professional drivers think that the seatbelt law doesn't apply to them!
60 x increase in motorcycle-involved crash for cash staged accidents over 22-23 (wonder what is driving that increase?). You'd be mad not to have a dash cam these days.
Wazzocks, the bloomin lot of them
A Fiat 500...
Had a guy in a beemer cutting folk up in rush hour, way quicker than everyone else, just before an average speed camera section.
Pulled into the outside land and stuck on the rear bumper of a Polestar. One blip of the pedal and the Polestar would have been gone into the distance.
Loads of noisy cars "cruising" around my local area. The usual stuff, clapped out fiestas and corsas with a ramshackle Halfords exhaust hanging off the back.
The fastest cars nowadays make no noise at all, however.
Yesterday my daughter handed over dashcam footage to plod, daughter not involved but was a witness to some of it. She's been distraught, it's really affected her as the innocent woman driver has internal injuries and doesn't look good. Daughter was comforting her until emergency services arrived. Do hope justice will be served.
lurches forward, pulls into my land and overtakes the lorry, but forces me to emergency brake and swerve (not sure how much was me, or how much was the car doing it!)…
Did you feel a slight tingle in your hair? Like a piss weak static build-up. That'll be his small dick energy.
