I'm trying to sort out some slovakian monies. I'm off to Bratislava and will be using bike shops, taxis and hostels and though I knwo you can use euros in some places I'd like to have a few Koruna in case.
Is the slovak koruna the same as the czech one? I've been using the post office website and it only lists czech koruna, not slovak ones- will they still take them?
Anywhere else safe and fast for online currency getting- I've got a mental busy week and need to get this sorted really.
Not a lot to see in Bratislava when I went. Much better of jumping on the boat and heading down to Vienna!
Don't remember getting any Czech Koruna when I was there, just Slovakian stuff. Best to double check by possibly phoning your bank, travelex etc.
Not the same I don't think.
I agree about Bratislava not being too amazing. Bits of the Tatras mountains were nice.
We'll be there to end a ride along the Danube- we'll be spending plenty of time in Vienna, don't worry! It's just to have a look really and see what's what.
Probably just easier to exchange when we get there I guess.
My brother lives in Slovakia. He says the whole country is Euro now, and not to bother with their own currency. Get Czech crowns at any ATM. There are currency-changers in most shopping centres for going to/from Euro. Hope this helps.
I'd offer to ask our Slovakian cleaning lady, who comes tomorrow.
Except she doesn't speak a word of English 🙁
Bratislava is a beautiful city, great contrast of the old town, communist era flats and industrial landscape.
and the women in the new parts of town are simply amazing. they do not like english men though, too many stag do idiots have ruined it
Agree about the women, not sure about your excuses though. 😉
Hi mate, Slovakian official currency is Euro since 01/01/09.
There's no point getting Czech crowns (korunas). You will not be able to pay with these. You will not be able to get any Slovakian Crowns (korunas) as they have been taken off the circulation by 31/01/09.
All you need now is Euros - same as in Spain or France etc.
Pint of beer is around €1, good weather. Old town Bratislava is great.
You should go to UFO - a restaurant on the top of the bridge. Great views.
You should not stay in the capital only. Make sure you visit High Tatras (north Slovakia) or Slovakian Paradise - both national parks. That's only if you fancy exploring a bit more 🙂
Im sure you have a great time.
