...so MTBers, GoPro has filed for an IPO. Time to buy some shares??

Frankly, having got to the point of boredom with MTB/Ski amateur videos (oops) I can't help feeling that this may mark the peak in the market. Perhaps everyone who posts a vid should be forced to own shares 😉

Still Saga closes today - tougher call that one.

As a business it's in the nasty tech space where it could be superseded any moment by the next big thing, however they seem to be hitting film & tv well and they are popping up in a lot of different places (Used by one of the America's cup crews throughout the racing to enable full reviews and training discussions) so there is more milage in it yet I reckon from the copr/serious sector

As above, really hard to see which way it's going to go, but they are doing well right now so you might make a bit of quick cash. Interesting one...

They're also a powerful brand, so much so that it's becoming generic - you hear people talking about "go pros" to mean any similar product. This can be good, at least a segment of the market will, for now, opt for Go Pro as the leading product on the market.

Saw a man using his go pro walking around an aquarium.
Bet that was epic to watch when he got home.

They seem to be in a sort of half happy, half dicey place-on the one hand they've made the jump into professional video which is a big deal for a consumer-level product. And it's hard to see a small competitor matching them now. But they've also attracted some serious interest from the big boys and that's where they could just get torpedoed.

Good for them though, they've done great things- the gopro 1 was the first really credible wearable cam, I remember early Contours (vholdrs) and ATCs and that, and bullet cams into pvrs, what a load of rubbish. Always seemed like they were going somewhere nobody else was able.

5 years ago there were heaps of people walking round with camcorders filming everything, GoPro is getting into this market a lot as a versatile camera.

Top gear and the like have been using them for years. That kind of exposure surely helps as well.

Good option when the UCI vote for cameras on bike in races, so only X and XC to be agreed then BAM!

More mileage yet IMO..
