[Closed] Singletrack swap shop?

[#2553538]

In light of the Classifieds being all about profit now it seems, I'd like to suggest a STW swap shop! Basically, I've got loads of bits which are no use to me, but might be of interest to someone else, though of little financial value, or at least of more value to me than their financial worth (if that makes sense?) Anyway, basically, I fancy some new bits for my bike, but none of them are NEED items so can't be bothered spending (much) money on them.

When I used to ride with a big group we'd always be swapping bits around, surely the same can be done here? Kind of freecycle for singletrack?

Anyone interested? I'll put up a stock list of my bits later today if anyone shows interest, along with the bits I'd like...

I'm not knocking people wanting to make money, If I cold I'd sell all my old tat and buy some new forks, its just some of the prices are a bit unrealistic. I guess I'm just harking after the old days when the classifieds were full of Ton's old frames and people selling the OEM stuff that came on their bike or bits they'd tried and didn't like for beer money rather than as a full time earner. If there's no interest in this, its no bother to me, I'll post my list of assorted crap up at grossly inflated prices and hope someone who knows no better buys it for more than its RRP!

If people want to make money by selling bike parts, they should open a shop. The spirit of the classifieds is selling on unwanted kit at a fair price to other riders, not asking full RRP or "trading".
Edit; how much are you asking for the session yeti?

meehaja - i don't think many people are selling for over srp, that's silly. I think a lot of buyers expect they should get some kind of mates rates on here just because we all go on the same forum.

maybe a swap shop will work but there would be a lot of trust involved to make it run smoothly

If I cold I'd sell all my old tat

eBay

The amount of complete rubbish I've sold on there recently from the depths of my spares box was shocking!

Strangely enough the reason I found this place about five years back was I was looking for a cross bike to swap for my dale road bike and google showed me this site and me and bianchi boy drove around two hours each and net up and swapped. He was called something different then tho. All went well apart from the fact initially I waited at m1 services while he was at a1 ones lol cue some fast driving and we were sorted ๐Ÿ˜‰

I dont think thats really a very fair comment about the classifieds, there are plenty of people still selling / getting rid at fair prices
Just last week I got a free Stumpjumper frame from 'midlifecrisis' and yesterday some Fox forks at a reasonable price (below ebay rates) from 'sssimon' and Im waiting for almost half a bike build to turn up taht was also very cheap
And in the last week people have had stuff from me for free or just covering postage - disc brake calipers, bottom bracket spacers etc
so big up and thanks to those people

If I sell stuff here I usually check completed listings on ebay to get an idea of value then reduce it by a little to take into consideration the fees I would incur anyway if I used ebay. I would rather that small amount of money is saved by someone here than going into the already swollen ebay/paypal coffers but at same time if Im selling something its because I need the money so of course Im going to want to make a little

Swop shop could work though, there is a few bits and pieces I need and I have stuff to swop, I'll do a list of needs and swops later

cheers iain, hope you like them

I've got a load of bargains on here and I've sold a load of good stuff that either wasn't my cup of tea of I'd used and moved onto newer stuff. The classifieds on here is great because people advertise at a price, a bit of bartering is expected and generally there aren't too many crooks (only been stung once but I'll get him in the long grass.........). Ebay has it's place but the whole bidding, waiting, bidding, waiting thing does my head in.

A swap shop would be great, every one has a list of haves and wants and knock yourselves out

ok, well, so far I have:
LX hollowtech 2 chainset and rings
LX rear mech
Deore front mech (one ride only!)
Deore shifters
Deore cassette (one ride only!)
Various stems (On-one, EA50, stupidly long one from back in t'day)
some FSA bars and some Bontrager bars, both medium rise
CX top of bar break levers
Old shimano cantilever breaks, ideal for hack/CX from parts bike?
some other BMX and Road bits
A Hayes HFX9 front lever and calliper
a couple of packs of spare pads for above brake
Bell full face helmet
3 26x1.95-2.25 inner tubes (car type valve)
Marzocchi All mountain forks (OEM from specialised, SL internals)
Maxxis high roller 2.3? tyres
a cheap front and cheap rear wheel (can't remember brands but I think WTB and Specialised?)
2 SDG Bel air saddles (crmo rails) one good, one not so...

What do i want? Interesting single speed stuff, I'd like to try some carbon bars (oversized), some Rockshox pike airs or similar, a 20mm front wheel, some tubeless tyres, a comfy seat, or other interesting stuff!

marzocchi's are 150mm travel (adjustable from the inside by a confusing series of valves) lovely forks, running nicely, missing a top cap on one side (usually covered by duct tape) and a bit scratched up..

this is not a spoon, I have a cassette rear disc wheel (WTB I think)...

Firestarter, I'd love a Ti roadbike, but I fear my battered old forks do not add up to a Ti ride!

I also have 2 (could be 6) M5 10mm Ti bolts... and Need 6x M6 15mm

Tazzymtb, what are CSUs? I have googled and think it may be the part of a fork that's not the lower? Might be interested if I'm right, and if they would fit into Reba lowers... Is that a crazy idea?

will swap for cakes, beer, big snogs etc..

etc?! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ I'm good at making cakes! ๐Ÿ˜‰
