I'm putting a new shower in and was wondering whether I need a 1.5 or a 2 bar pump? I would like a reasonable shower, but do not need to be shot blasted!
If anyone can recommend me a good pump at a stunning price!

I used to have a Triton pump that was good and allowed you to adjust the flow rate but when it finally gave up I could not afford to replace it with another Triton so took a flyer and bought a Wickes pump.

It has been running fine for about 4 years and was half the price of the Triton. There is no flow adjustment on it though (not that you really need it).

1.5bar is fine for a single shower.

I'd say 2 bar. My mains pressure is 2 bar. I got a 3 bar pump. It does shot blast you with certain shower heads and is definitely too much. The only advice I got at the time was to go for a decent quality (I.e. More expensive) one as the cheaper ones won't last. Mines been in about 7 years and used almost daily and hasn't missed a beat.

I love a good power shower and I fit bathrooms myself. A year ago we had an insurance repair at home and the bloke brought a cheap crappy Grahams own brand Altech pump. I was hoping for a Salamander and was on standby to be very grumpy indeed.

It's been great - quiet and powerful. Go for cheap and crappy!

I have a Salamander pump that we've just removed - I think it's around 3 or 4 years old.

It was pretty good; quiet and plenty powerful enough for us. We removed it as we have just replaced the boiler with a combi, so (allegedly) don't need it. I miss my power shower. 😐

We have a salamander 1.5 bar, it is more than adequate and quietish. Remember to make sure your hot and cold tanks are big enough so they don't run dry, the higher the pressure the faster this will happen.

Freddyg: its not possible to run a shower pump on a combi system. Your shower will now run off mains pressure ,so should be as powerful as a 'power shower' (unless your mains water pressure is pants!)

Cannyj. I know it is not possible to run a shower pump on a combi system... That's why we took it out!

Mains pressure is okay, but not fantastic.

Freddyg, Salamander do a mains water booster pump which boosts the incoming water mains pressure. Simple to fit and should make all the water outlets perform much better. IIRC it gives a flow rate of about 12l/min

Ta! I'll have a look.

Do you know if it is worth trying to sell my existing salamander shower pump?

freddyg, I would stick it on ebay. You would be amazed what 2nd hand ones go for.

Mine cost £5 more brand new than they were selling for on ebay 2nd hand...

I'm wanting to stick a power shower in ASAP, currently have one of those bloody awful white box jobbies set lower than the top of my head and I'd stand more chance of getting wet if I employed a dehydrated midget to stand up top of a multi story car park and urinate on me in a high wind.
