biking resumes in earnest for me.

I started in 1996 - since then the only resumptions have been due to injury

Tim - it's only 'cos you've been ill! All months are good, and as said above it's getting lighter - the skies were just lightening up this morning for the first time this year as I left home.

The mud is cr@p i agree - but it's a good blast for the legs in the thick stuff.

The only bit of the year I'd ban is the last Wednesday in January - now THAT is depressing!!

and as said above it's getting lighter

but to me that's effectively negative thinking, implying the short days are bad, when in fact they're inescapably tied to the dropping of crunchy autumn leaves, and the stark forms of bare trees, to the biting frosts that transform mud into temporary rock (and what's wrong with mud anyway ? - it can be fun too!) and the delighful snow that vividly picks out the forms of the mountains and turns familiar terrain into an exciting challenge! The cycle of seasons is just that, an endlessly turning wheel of change to be celebrated and enjoyed not whinged over ๐Ÿ™‚

I don't change my riding patterns because of the weather (except when it's windy and above 8 Celsius - that's windsurf time). I've been out 2 evenings and 1 day just about every week this year.

If we did get rid of February could make August 59 days? Better to have more days in the summer surely.

Don't tell the Aussies.

It's my birthday on Feb 27th, so I like the month.

Mine too! I like February. January is worse than Feb, it's dark when I go out to work and dark when I get home (when I'm working basic anyways), at least in Feb it starts to get abit lighter later and I can tinker with my car/boat without using lights. Bring on April though, as soon as the temp hits 12-15 degrees'ish, the wakeboard gear comes out ๐Ÿ™‚

Its fantastic to have seasons and changable weather. You never know whats comming next week, and its good to have a break from certain activities.

Not climbed outdoors for 4 months but looking forwards to dry spring to get out there again.

The changes also make me ride and discover different areas. Muddy local trails, well just go to the Lakes, and leave the Dales for spring/summer when things dry out a bit.

If you suffer from SAD, then the best thing for you is natural light, so even more of a reason to get out there and ride. The exercise adds to the benefit too.

February is the worst month for SAD.

Unless you are working from home or just w/ends, then all your riding is going to be in the dark - as well we know, so no help there either!

No, just look outside, and do the same tomorrow and the day after and tell me that isn't typical of February! The mud is thick, gloopy, cold and has no upsides to it. It's the culmination of the worst of the winter withnout the hard, clean frosts, there are no bank holidays to look forward to, no national festivals to be eargely anticipated.

Room 101 for February - for all eternity!
