Gets mentioned a lot on political threads but I've never actually seen it, and there's a screening this weekend at the Quad in Derby. Assuming I'm over my cold by then, worth a watch?
(I can find it online I'm sure)
Yes, it's a good film.
Was very funny originally but as time passes it becomes less fanciful.
Similar to watching Years and Years, it was uncomfortable watching in 2019 but rewatching in 2025 was frightening.
Yes, but be prepared to get angry/dismayed/ baffled/annoyed, and question everything 😉
It has it's moments, probably worth watching just because it has because part of the vocabulary, like Groundhog Day everyone knows what you mean.
i better watch it again. great film, specially these days
A friend lent me the DVD, "highly recommended, really funny". I gave it 10 minutes and turned it off. I have since discovered our taste in films is different.
Highbrow humour it is not, its just gets more preposterous and ludicrous as it goes on, but in a world of Trump, Farage, antivaxers rfk jr,, andrew tate, joe rogan etc its looking like a horribly prescient window into the future
If Trump came out tomorrow and said he said we should start watering crops with Monster Energy coz- 'its got what plants crave. It's got electrolytes.'
no one would be surprised
It's funny but also a shockingly good prediction of how things are starting to go.
Well worth a watch.
First watched it a few years ago. Enjoyed it but I fear reality is edging closer to the fiction, much like Years and Years (as pointed out above).
As above, things are starting to look a lot like Idiocracy.
It's ok, I say that as a huge fan of Mike Judge & especially Beavis & Butthead.
Yep. Not even really a satire anymore. Prophetic
It seemed silly over the top comedy on release, now it’s MAGA.
Well worth watching, but only if you like dick jokes. You won't ever look at a Starbucks quite the same again. This is the doctor in the movie, he is a doppelganger for a guy from Texas that I used to work with. Looks the same, talks the same.

Never seen it, but from what I’ve read, everything I see online about what’s going on in America seems to indicate it’s already happening.
And not just in America.
It is an awful film, if it is satirising the growing stupidity of society then it is doing so by proving how dumbed down its audience is.
To make sure dumb Americans get the joke, the same joke is hammered endlessly in exchange for a plot, characters, or interest. You can watch about, I dunno; 10 mins of the start to get the set up, and skip to about 10 mins to the end to get the pay off. The rest of the movie in the middle is just "Americans have become really dumb and say and do dumb things"
I don't know whether Mike Judge planned it that way...
Leave me alone..I'm 'baiting.....
It's a silly, funny film.. I really like it! As other day, it's not highbrow but never meant to be!
Watch it..you'll enjoy!
Fun fact... When it was made, they wanted the 'future people's to be wearing clothes and shoes SOOO stupid and ugle..you know..ones people would never actually want to wear. They found some weird shoes from an unknown brand, and put the actors in those. Check out WHAT shoes the future people wear! 😜
DrP
I was thinking of ex machina, for some reason, not thisi better watch it again. great film, specially these days
Watch it, it could be a 30 minute documentary now.
Slightly, OT.
I watched Deliverance again the other day. Still has things to say, such as Burt's description of Voights life and the effect with have on the environment.
For the archers out there, when Burt looks at his fletchings after the incident. His look says it all.
Great film. Now it's our turn to play the game.
I wouldn't say it's great, it's entertaining in a dick jokes way, but not worth going to the cinema to watch! Find it on Disney (apparently) and watch it one rainy afternoon. I watched it years ago and thought how stupid is that... and was aghast when Trump got his first term in office and when they voted him again, it is definitely the beginning of the end..
For some reason the way it gets referenced on here had made me overlook the dick joke potential. Rainy day on Disney+ seems a better use of time.
I was going to ask you to let us know your view after watching it but then decided it's not the type of film I want to go out of my way for, or pay money to watch. The only comment above countering the critical comments above was about the chosen footwear featured in the film. A quick Google scratched that itch. I don't have an itch to scratch for dick jokes currently!
Along with Idiocricy and Year and Years, Team America World Police feels like it fits in the same bracket these day
Ever noticed the footwear they have in the future?
It is an awful film, if it is satirising the growing stupidity of society then it is doing so by proving how dumbed down its audience is.
And yet, this is precisely why it is so culturally relevant right now!
A good film, it isn't... But I doubt even the most stoic of cultural historians could argue its not relevant!
They do say that the truth is stranger than fiction... With idiocracy, the writers went massively OTT to create a ludicrous dystopian future as a means to make people laugh at the crudity of it all... But sadly, 20yrs later, we're not laughing... We're sat wondering how ignorance and the dumbing down of society has been celebrated and how great swathes of the developed world have turned into real life reality TV shows.
It's scarily prophetic!

It's quite funny if you like that puerile 90s Beavis and Butthead style humour (it was co-written / directed by Mike Judge) but I doubt it would make any film critic's Top 100 list.
Remember the PinkBiike Grim Doughnut? The took the trend of the past few years, extrapolated because they thought it would be funny and found it more realistic than intended?
It's that, but applied to society
The big tech industry really has dissappeared right up its own @rse hasn't it? Totally trapped within their own hype bubble.

Here's another part of the problem! Some people are so cut off from society that analogies to their special interests are the only way they can relate to society! 😉 (talking about myself again are you sirromj?)

It's worth a watch if you've not got much on, just remember it's cult, cheesey mid-00s comedy, not Citizen Kane.
From memory it points at TV and Commercials (and Commercialism) as the cause for the downfall of Humanity, if released only a few years later it would have probably pointed at Smart Phones and Social Media, maybe if they reboot it 10 years from now, it'll be AI.
From memory it points at TV and Commercials (and Commercialism) as the cause for the downfall of Humanity,
I take it as the lack of critical thinking being the downfall.
