Hi,

I'm looking to take my GF somewhere for her birthday next weekend. I was thinking Edinburgh but the train tickets seem crazy expensive (£200 return from Leeds). I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas that would be a bit cheaper?

Cheers for any help!!

You could hire a car for the weekend for fifty quid.
Drive her up to a B&B in the lakes which are dead cheap this time of year.

Take her for a walk up in the hills, down to a pub, spend all afternoon drinking beer and eating rustic meals, back to the B&B, sex all night. Repeat the following day.

Apart from hiring a car (because we own two already), that's what we did last weekend. Brilliant!

Where from? You could get some pretty cheap flights, all sorts of European destinations available...

Self catering cottage in Cornwall. Walk the coastal paths along soaring cliffs, buy good local food - cook nice meals and get lashed in the evenings.

try National Express. might take a bit longer but the price difference might make it ok. Leeds - Newcastle is about 2 hours by car, nearer 3 by NE if I remember rightly, so Edinburgh will probs take twice that

Or you could go to Dublin for less than that & the plane is in the air for a max 45mins

Durham or York? What you save on transport spend on flash accomodation.
