Quick question for anyone local to Shoreham. Me and my teenage lad are going to ride back to Guildford after tomorrows BHF London to Brighton via the downs link. Normally I would go via Upper Kingston Lane and past the youth hostel on Truleigh Hill before dropping down into Beeding I think it is ?. Now last time I did this the other way round I noticed just before coming into Beeding the sign for the downs link and Shoreham was straight on. So I was wondering if thats a flatter route and if so where abouts in Shoreham I can pick it up. I've only ever done all this on the London to Brighton offroad so normally kind of stick to that route.
Thanks in advance.
Downs Link is very easy to find in Shoreham as it runs alongside the river. Head to the wooden bridge near the North East corner of the airport. That’s your Downs link. Goes North following the river to Bramber, sneaks round the houses, bit of hill and then it’s flat straight railtrack for miles....
Appreciate its flatter but my son & i disliked the bit into Shoreham having cycled from Guildford... after the sereneness of the DL, you then dumped on to busy roads & the industrial/commercial seafront section as we made are way to Brighton for the train. Depending on you legs, id go a route via Devils Dyke/SDW/YHA
You can get from Brighton to Shoreham without using main roads, turning into Shoreham harbour as you leave Hove, getting out of the harbour across the locks, then following the lightly signed route through Shoreham. Like the start of this https://www.strava.com/activities/1615369751. Have fun tomorrow!
Thanks all, will check it out tomorrow.
Good to know sl2000...didn't know there was public access to get to the south side of the harbour from the Shoreham side
