need to move our 1200l kerosene tank from one side of the garden to the other - about 15ft!!
Then couple up a new feed to the boiler and rayburn. Base is stone flags. Anything i need to know?

Is it easy to siphon the oil into drums?

check where your water supply pipe runs and dont spill any oil! Seriously, if you have plastic pipes then you can contaminate your water supply 🙁

My parents are looking at having a new tank put in, and have been advised that the location of the new tank has to be quite specific re: building regs, or at least needs fireproofing putting in if a replacement is put in the same place.

Strikes me as unthinkable that this could be a DIY job.

Why - its a plastic box that will be empty. it has a feed pipe that needs connecting. Al - you are a thinking man, stick to that eh!!

BTW the heating engineer stated that it was a DIY job and suggested where to site it.

messing about with elecs, gas etc requires certified tradesmen, seems to me kerosene would be similar. Happy to be proved wrong!

Kerosene is a simple liquid fuel that's not explosive unlike gas and leaks are easily traceable unlike elec. Christ, you can design and build your own car with minimal testing, moving a fuel tank is nothing 😀

having once seen a bloke in Spain fill up his car with petrol whilst holding a lit fag in the other hand...and nothing happened, I would say it's totally safe: What could possibly go wrong??

If it is a plastic tank please put it on a level flat base. Dont mount it like a steel takn as the bottom can kink and you lose the lot. Make sure your household insurance covers the tank and spillages.

Environment Agency website should have some info.

You should really bund it to 110%of it's capacity just in case it does burst.

I just shifted 800L by hand from a neighbour who is selling her tank and needed to empty it. Took a few hours, but her son looked after most of the unloading, which we did by cuttting the fuel pipe and feeding into a relay of 25L drums. I've now got a tank full of cheap oil ready for winter 😀

OFTEC certified for oil.

lots of rules and regs regarding siting of oil tank. And it does burn, if you spill some, it evaporates and then the fumes are very flammable. Take care.
