Was hoping to add a cheap solar powered fan (air circulation) but having read the eBay descriptions not sure it would run in winter (esp this winter which appears to be putting puddles on the puddles)

Anybody running a 12v type panel in winter ? And what sort of things can it power.

Ta

We have a Solar powered pir security lamp with an onboard Li ion battery. From about March to November it works fine, otherwise I have to charge it every three weeks or so. Luckily it has the same connector and voltage requirements as my Hope lights. The panel faces pretty much due south as suggested.
Not exactly the same as your proposal, but an indication perhaps.

I used to run a motorbike battery, solar panel and bildge pump for a large open sailing boat. Panel was maybe 20cm X 50cm
It ran for a good hour a day even in the depths of winter.

Get a USB one and a couple of batteries that you rotate daily? Or at least one that has USB or battery input of some sort?

It will run when it’s sunny.

I have a 50w panel (in a sub-optimal position) and a leisure battery to power a chicken house door and a couple of leds. The panel doesn’t do much in the way of charging in the winter.

The 250w panel I have for fans and irrigation in the greenhouse does quite a lot and works fine (but doesn’t need to do much in the winter).

Basically you need a big panel and a big battery for use in the winter.
