So the shed is long overdue for some new paint.

Lots of green algae stuff on a lot of the boards to get off.

Any idea on what I should use? Washing up liquid mix, weak bleach mix?

Cheers IMG_20260412_174722.jpg IMG_20260412_174710.jpg

Wire brush and then either a proprietary cleaner, relatively inexpensive, or cheap is white vinegar mixed around 1:2 or 1:3 with water.

Leave to dry and then use a good fence and shed paint with plenty of preservative in it.

I'm a fan of white vinegar personally, about £1 a litre from larger branches of supermarkets (main ones i mean, not Express, Local types)

Patio Magic/Greenaway/similar "spray and leave" stuff. Then rinse down. Then run some sandpaper over the whole lot. Over just give it a scrub with a stiff brush.

I'd jetwash that, but I'm a heathen who also jetwashes bikes.

Cheers folks.

Jet wash/rinse is on the menu after using whatever to clean it first.

Jet wash to scrub it, and then the local Boy Scouts, your children, or some Eastern Europeans (whoever you want to exploit) to repaint it.

Timber prep is oxalic acid sometimes combined with citric acid. You can buy it in paint/diy shops. It works when i've used it on decks and helps you make the most of the paint/oil that you put on afterwards, can't see why it wouldn't work on your shed.

I found a wire brush was better than a sand down - gets into the nooks and crannies.
I also spent more on good paint with a view I was not doing it for another decade. Then moved house 9 months later...

In the current market the OP should be planning to get the house on the market now then if the sale is to go through by January 🙂

Based on painting my house, garage and shed a few times, jetwasher, let it dry properly (might be several days, a week +) and get some decent paint

Home Bargains have Spear and Jackson patio cleaner pretty cheap. I put some diluted with water on our shed a few weeks ago and all the algae has gone.

I used Betec barn paint last time, not cheap but was recommended and has lasted well.

Think I'll start with jet wash, let it dry then go over with wire brush etc then the barn paint.
