We will be in touch
I am thinking of working from home as I only need a PC and phone. I would like to make a garden office and I think a decent shed could be converted.
Anyone working from a shed - photos appreciated to give me some ideas
No one? Surprising!
I'm in the same situation - been looking into it for a while. I fancy getting something a bit posher than a shed though. There's a place that does sheds-cum-cabins which are double-glazed and insulated for not a huge amount of money. The thing that puts me off is the costs of heating in the winter (we're in Scotland)
Good luck!
Cant do photos, but I work daily from 1 in my garden. Insulated, double glazed, little veranda on the front with a nice view of the garden !! Its 3m x 4m from a company called Dunster House. It took a fair bit of erecting (fnar) but is great. Cat 5E and power up there, carpet on the floor and blinds on the windows. - Its nicer than some proper offices. Even when we had the bad winter before christmas the little wall heater was set between the frost setting and 1 and kept tripping out.
Ah yes, Dunster house is the place I've been looking at. The Avon 300 to be precise. The erecting of it looks a bit daunting, but it can't be that bad.
So is it fairly draught proof and warm when you're actually working in it? Does your Cat5 go back to the DSL router in the main house? I was thinking of using a 2nd DSL line. Did you go for the insulated roof option?
If you ever get around to taking pics, I'd love to see them!
Cheers,
Kevin
For the heating, just install a log burner it will be more than enough and cheap.
I've just got a shed from these guys recently and the quality is top notch:

There's a link to home offices on the front page.
Kevin,
Yeah really warm - I'm sat writting technical reports in it for 8 - 10 hrs a day so not much moving around. Fully insulated roof with mineral felt. No obvious draughts and no condensation / damp. - but I was pretty careful putting it up. When we had the cold snap before winter, the floor (which is also insulated) was the coldest part, but I just walked up the garden in wellies with my slippers ! Cat 5 ran back to router in house in lengths of hose pipe ready to be dug in when I get chance. - a full 100m drum and no problems so far.
I prepared the base in a weekend and got the main superstructure in 2 days with the help of my brother in law. Probably took another 2 - 3 days to fit the inernal trims, windows, wire it all up, carpet it etc. Dont underestimate the costs of the wiring and fixings etc. I would certainly recommend Dunster hOUse - seemed very professional - Even tThe wagon driver who delivered it worked hard to help unload.
