We will be in touch
A friend of mine died suddenly last week. He had fairly recently bought a VW camper van. It is a very high spec Bilbo conversion in very good condition; 4 motion, low mileage, etc.
His wife wants to sell the van but has no idea how to do it as painlessly as possible without being ripped off. I said I'd help but have never even sold a car so am pretty clueless.
I know a lot of people on here have vans so I was looking for advice/suggestions on how best to go about selling it. Any help gratefully received. Thanks
Very sorry to hear about your friend
As I understand it, demand for motorhomes, caravan and probably campervans is currently very high, with demand outstripping supply. So I'd phone around a few reputable dealers and see what they offer. Private sale wouldn't be worth the hassle IMO. One thing with dealers is they won't want any accessories so you'd have to sell these separately
If he bought it fairly recently, would the dealer take it back or possibly sell again on her behalf ?
With the current climate, I’m sure you would be able to get back what was paid for it
Speak to the supplying dealer
You might get value info from autotrader (has a motorhomes section)
Southern motorhome centre (bracknell in my case) , offered me a cash price and a commission price (better), and they said I could swop from commission to cash if it didn’t sell in say 2 months. With the commission sale you no longer ‘own’ so you can cancel road tax and insurance and it’s their problem (*unless it don’t sell), so I guess other dealers may also offer similar.
There is also a webuyanymotorhome type website that I never got round to using.
I wouldn't sell to a dealer in the current market - good condition VW camper's are in demand right now.
Easiest thing to do would be join the Facebook group 'VW T5 Forum UK' and post an add there. It will quickly get reposted to other groups where folk know others are looking.
You'll have to filter a few daft questions, but if you price it fairly it will gone in a couple of days.
Call Bilbos - they are a good company and I'm sure will either buy it back or advertise it on their site. Sorry to hear about the situation.
The most painless way will be through a dealer and ideally the one it came from.
If it’s sold privately she’ll likely get more especially with current paperwork and a recent habitation check including gas safety. (The habitation check goes over electrical condition including condition of the batteries, moisture, and water supply.)
Bilbo buy their vehicles back, talk to Steve or David 01342 892499
Or you can get advice from the Motorhome Sellers Advice Line 08080 600 600
The more options you have the better on how to proceed.
The bilbos site do sell second hand Motorhome sand they currently do t have any on offer they are all sold, so would imagine they would be keen to buy
if you choose to sell yourself then ebay, classified advert, fixed price will cost £20 for 4 weeks and no further costs. Vans are in high demand but if bought from a dealer then don't expect to make it all back.
I'd suggest that if you try to sell it private, err on the high side for price. As people above say, and as you can tell from any TC carpark VWs are in heuge demand.
In fact you could probably put an ad on here... Oh, sorry, you have 🙂 ( meant in a nice way)
Go on, post pics and description on here. I can guarantee you'll get loads of interest, and at the very least a lot of input on the estimated value.
And sorry to hear about your mate.
My estimate based on info so far is £45,000
Thanks all for the really helpful replies. Most appreciated The van isn't brand new its several years old. It was bought originally by a local family in the village but hardly used. My friend was looking for a van as he moved towards retirement, spoke to the neighbours about vans and ended up buying it.
I will pass the advice to the family and see how they want to proceed... Thanks again.
Don't be afraid of the age it's spec and condition that will sell it.
Pistonheads selling page
Ebay classified not auction.
They are in short supply as others have said.
Good luck
Sorry to hear your sad news.
