Run under hot water could expand lid and allow it to pop off.

Failing that try turning over and banging it down quite hard on a towel laid over a hard surface.

Pour hot water over it. Expand the lid, expand the air inside.

Heat the lid
If that makes it tighter use the opposite of hot

And elastic bands round top for mo' grip

Or wear marigolds.

Nuke them from orbit, it's the only way to be sure

I bet if you were skillful you could hold it by the glass and bang the overhanging lid down on the edge of that table and pop it off like a bottletop.

When I have a stuck lid like this I put a dull knife blade between the lid and glass and twist, this pops the seal and equalises the pressure and then you can unscrew it.

Hot water is not working and it's a push fit so banging it won't help.

I've found that makign the straps a bit rougher where they contact the surface of the item to turn gives more grip.

If the lids are push fit, can you put jars in the oven, heat to just below wax melting point, which will expand the air, making it easier to pop the lids off?

Science I can understand.

I was going to suggest puncturing the lid. If the lid was put on when the wax was still hot, when it cooled down there'd have been a vacuum. Heating it up even to wax melting temp would then only have raised pressure to ambient at most.

For the others, light the candle first, the heat from that should expand the lid enough to hand-unscrew off

Kids were probably fitted when wax still warm, as it cools it's pulled a vacuum in the cavity. Break the seal and you'll be fine.

You could drill a small hole in centre of lid? Or try and poke a nail under the seal on the lid, just enough to equalise the pressure.

I thought he was a chocolatier?  That must explain why the last batch tasted funny,

I still want to know how he got it off. The belt wrenches would be my first option failing hot water and a tea towel.

Hit edge with a knife. This breaks the seal and lets air under. Then prise or unscrew. That’s the SOP for jam jars for my poor wrist.

The wood and the hammer yielded the required results.
