Daughter 2 is making a school project featuring a water wheel. It could be powered manually but would be better if it could be automated simply.

If I buy this pump do I just need a battery to power it, or do I need to actually buy a raspberry pi and learn how to use it (which would in itself be valuable learning for her)?

That looks like it would just require power, you'd only get into anything more sophisticated if you wanted to vary the speed of the pump, but otherwise its just attach battery - pump runs.

Thanks. I've found a battery box on the same site that has a switch.
