Another +1 for The Lives of Others, great film.

I would suggest Let the Right One In or actually, if you're feeling a bit lazy, the American remake Let Me In is almost as good.

Dogtooth.

It's kind of how I imagine hora's world to be from his perspective.

I've never seen Reservoir Dogs and never really felt the need to see it, although I do like other Tarantino movies!

Wings of Desire - God, what a superb film, possibly Wim Wenders finest.
AND it's got Peter Falk in it.

3 colours: red, 3 colours: white & 3 colours: blue by Krzysztof Kieslowski - all superb, well worth a watch.

Watched the pilot episode of 'Breaking Bad'
It's about a high school chemistry teacher who finds out he's terminal cancer, goes off the rails a bit
and starts up a meth amphetamine lab from a camper van.
IMDB gives it a 9.4 out of 10
Well worth a viewing.

I quite enjoyed Elite squad.
Or Das Boot is a must if you haven't seen it? All in all I just think that other countries exist outside of english speaking nations & most of them make better films than we do.

Fancy taking a chance on The guard post?

A couple I've always found thought-provoking when I've seen them.

Snow Falling On Cedars - post-WW2 smalltown lawyer defends Japanese immigrant against murder charge
A Midnight Clear - wet-behind-the-ears US soldiers get up to not much over Christmas in WW2 Europe, then it all goes somewhat awry

Both very sedate pace, both beautifully shot, both starring Ethan Hawke.

Ghost Dog is good.

He's right, it is very good, I'd forgotten that one.
Any of the Myazaki/Studio Ghibli animé, like Howl's Moving Castle, Porko Rosso, Spirited Away...
Collateral - just thought of this one, Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx. Cruise is very good in this, as a contract killer cruising LA in a taxi. Really enjoyed it, but it seems to have slipped under the radar.

Can I wholeheartedly recommend with every fibre of my being that you DO NOT watch The Serbian film.
I really mean it. There's been some great suggestions already, I like to think of myself as being able to enjoy just about any film from anywhere in the world but not this one.
I really mean it. Don't watch it.
Ps, Leon is a great film if you haven't seen it.
Pps, what did you think of Schindlers List Hora?

Interesting how OS set out for personal gain/slave labour exploitation but fell into a reluctant savior role.

Is the film accurate? I.e The Accountant Stein?

On Goth, three attempts to hang him in 1946. Oh dear oh dear.

Best film I have seen in a long time, still at the top of the charts, the Russian film How I Ended This Summer.

It's slow to start but builds nicely.

(No helicopters explode though, and it doesn't have any kookie good looking french birds in it, which I gather is your cup of tea if you liked Amelie. Try Betty Blue for that.)

Hmmmm, loads of little gems covered so far in this, so for the sheer fun of it:

King of Kong.

A great little indie documentary with a very funny story that the Director admittedly just stumbled on. It's a little gem of a film.

Clerks (then go on a Kevin Smith athon)

Clerks 2 after you've watched Clerks (surprisingly good for a sequel).

Watch "ils" a French-Romanian suspense/horror movie. Really quite unsettling in a way I didn't expect it to be.
