thinking of a new telly , any thoughts on this , other options cheers
Yes.
See also, Panasonic and Toshiba.
Pleased to hear their TV's are good. Their fridge freezers are bloody awful! Good customer service though, that said it needs to be if your £800 appliance fails every 8 months!
I have had both Samsung and Panasonic (present) plasma and I prefer the Panasonic. Never had any repair issues with either.
One thing to do some research on is that almost all of the big manufacturers have 3 levels of each TV (at least here in the US). They sell their lower end ones through the big-box stores and the mid-level and top level more often through specialty audio-video dealers or through quality internet stores.
The pricing can vary quite a bit from top-tier to bottom tier. I can say, IMHO, that there is a difference in picture quality between the levels. On Panansonic plasma, the blacks are much "blacker" on the top tier. The Samsung I had was a lower-tier model and the colors and blacks just not as "rich".
There are a lot of good comparison-reviews available on-line, although it can get pretty confusing to wade through
I bought this Samsung LCD TV from JL last Friday for £299.

So far so good and better than the Alba I borrowed from a friend. The sound and picture quality are much better.
