Hi guys, i'm due for an upgrade on my mobile phone contract soon and i'm looking to reduce the monthly price which will mean I won't be offered a top of the range phone and the Galaxy Ace appears to be a good phone that i'm likely to be offered.
the reviews i've read of it online suggest it's good but not brilliant, which I guess is to be expected given that it's not an iphone 5 or galaxy s3.
I was wondering if anyone has one and what they think of it? in particular, what is the OS like to operate? I'm currently on android 2.1. Also, how easy is the touch keyboard on it? i've currently got a phone with an actual qwerty so i'm a bit worried that my fat fingers will be typing all kinds of gobble-di-gook.
thanks in advance
Just got the Ace 2, if thats any use.
Keyboard fine, apart from the fact that the comma key isn't on the main keyboard screen.
Build quality a bit light, camera ok, plays video, good browser, better than the Orange San Francisco it replaced.
I like it.
Not bad. No flash player though. Battery life is poo but you can get replacement higher capacity batteries off of eBay cheaply and if you run the juice defender app you'll extend the battery life no end.
Difference from the S2 is staggering. As above, though we've had issues with insufficient space and it running out of message space despite not runing out of available mem.
had mine for 18 moths now... The OS kept on crapping out saying that application samsung home cannot be found and the touch screen just broke. i am phone less 😛 fine whist it worked though. you can put flash player on by rooting it though
Never found it lacking flash capability oddly, youtube etc all play as normal on a non-rooted phone here.
Thanks for the tip on the Ace2 and the higher capacity batteries.
I will have a look at the Ace2 and see what the differences are and also if it's going to be in my price range.
Any other opinions or experiences? Does it crash often or does it 'hang' whilst using processor heavy applications?
I have the ace, girlfriend has the ace plus (slightly bigger and faster).
Very happy with both phones, their cheapness makes up for the downsides IMO. Works great as a GPS ride tracker (strava, memory map) which was my main reason for buying a smartphone, very reliable, battery easily lasts all day (lasts better on the ace than the plus though).
The ace isn't quite powerful enough for some games, tried to download one from the play store and it wouldn't let me whereas the ace plus was compatible. The keyboards are a bit crap - very easy to press the wrong key when typing making texting a bit of a chore. The ace does tend to hang a bit on the more processor hungry apps.
i have a galaxy S, colleague has an ace that i had to set up, my two year old S is faster than a brand new Ace.
I was actually a bit surprised as i would have expected the budget phone to be as fast as my old phone.
Nothing actually wrong with the phone by the way, screen was ok it worked etc.
Really like mine. Got a Sony Experia (terrible handset) on a new contract but decided to keep using the Sammy. It does seem to have memory limitations though and I have to clear data/cache now and then for updates to work - not sure if other phones also need this done? I do use a few memory heavy apps tho.
Camera is good. Voice recognition works pretty well for longer emails instead of typing. GPS is accurate most of the time.
Wont play vimeo which is annoying.
which xperia? Im thinking about the S to replace my Ace
I have an ace plus which I am happy with but that depends what you are comparing it against.
I've got an ace, use it for strava and internet frolicking, It's good but.im.forever.pressing..
thanks for all the advice guys. i'd also like to know which xperia you have got...
I might have to investigate which other phones are in my price range... anyone got anyy recommendations? maybe the xperia tipo or xperia u?
