Struggling to find a decent hard case for a laptop that's going to spend a lot of it's time bouncing around in a pickup truck being driven over all sorts of terrain. I need something hard shelled to offer a bit of impact protection.
Any suggestions?
Cheers.
Depending on your software requirements, perhaps a refurbished/second hand rugged laptop?
Spec wise, they are rubbish by comparison to 'modern' laptops - but they aren't designed to be ultra fast.
Panasonic ToughBooks IIRC
Cheers xiphon. I did consider this, and ruled it out due to spec and expense. I've got the laptop and ultimately it's not going to be used in harsh environments, I just need something to keep it safe when in transit/when the dogd leaping around on it in the truck etc.
Might sound daft, but a big plastic storage box with foam inside it? And a lid on the box too?
I will need to get out of the truck and meet clients, so although that would do the job, not quite what i had in mind.
Have a look at booq cases and sleeves.
Peli case and some foam....
How about a normal laptop bag, with a modicum of padding, but chosen to make it as easy as possible to get the thing in and out?
Looking good guys cheers.
Even if you pad it, all that shaking around is going to kill the drive sooner rather than later. But you keep up to date backups so that's not a problem, right? Just saying...
Not if it's on standby.
Peli case every time for physical protection, but as IA says a case will only keep the rubbish out - shake it too much and sooner or later the internals of the laptop inside the case will reorganise themselves, whether or not they're on "standby" at the time.
Not if it's on standby.
My experience is even suspended or shutdown laptops lives are shortened by being bumped around a lot. If it's turned on it'll not last long at all!
True but being on standby will at least protect the drive from the most obvious vibration danger, ie head crash.
Think I'd be swapping the mechanical HD out for an SSD . . .
+ 1 for Peli.
