I've got Thule, both cheaper and posher ones. They have worked for a decade, securely and without faff.

I've just picked up an additional Thule ProRide 591 on Facebook from a neighbor for £30.

Roofbox would be where if buy them from ad they were great when I got the roof bars and box. I just want sure if the down tube clamp option was a good idea with carbon frames ?

Mate has a tallboy in medium. That and my carbon framed cube stereo have done thousands of miles on top of my car with Thule 591s over the last 7/8 years with no issues. Recommend!

It's not really the clamp round the frame that's holding the bike in place its the straps over the wheels restricting any force upwards as you expect hurtling up the motorway.

The clamp around the frame really is only there to stop it falling to the side so you don't need to clamp it really hard, plus the newer Thule 598 is torqued anyway to stop over tightening.

Anyway as above, many miles with different carbon bikes over the years and no issues.

Thule 591 is the benchmark all other carriers are measured against. They are 100% reliable, easy to pick up second hand and just work very well.

The Thule 598 has a revised clamp to the 591 which is supposed to be better with carbon frames. I've been running a 591 for years and they're very sturdy and reliable
