If someone was an utter ****er in life then death does nothing but improve them, and there could hardly be a better time to remind everyone of what an utter ****er they were because they can't issue some utterly ****y response or claim they were just doing it for clicks.

Anyway there’s a kind of poetic justice here that he'd surely appreciate now he’s dead as he spent his career attacking people unable to defend themselves.

Clarkson unlike say Steve Coogan has no seperation between player and person. That's what taints him.
With Clarkson and Liddle - they use a disingenous extension of broadcast personality to allow them to do and say cruel stuff they really want to say. But it's still them. (I mean who parodied this better than Stewart Lee.)
Conversely in a much more humorous, smarter and entirely fictional way Larry David did this in Curb your Enthusiam - but he was intelligent enough to know he was playing a character to act out his fantasies that are clearly seperate from his reality.

I'm genuinely surprised at that (and I usually live under a rock when it comes to news, I get most of it from on here). I thought LP were - for want of a better turn of phrase - the poster boy for Shit Going Nonce in dramatic fashion.
Watkins was so rotten that the other inmates hated him. The guys who did him in were in for rape and murder, and they weren't the first ones to try. The last time someone grabbed him and tried to turn him into a human teabag the warders rushed to rescue him just six short hours later.

Utterly vile for at least what we see of her.
What I find fascinating is these all have the reactions to everything on the right.
It's as if they've haven't analysed any of it but have to support the team irrespective.
I might add the music of Gary Glitter to the list. I quite liked the over the top nature, the slightly camp way he took the piss out of himself. But I haven't been able to bring myself to listen to any of it since his (Paul Gadd's) conduct became known.

Occasionally you can hear Rock and Roll pt2 in American shows. It's used in Stadiums all over the states (they know it as the "Hey song"), and it's cultural impact over there is completely different to back here in the UK, They mostly don't seem to know about his convictions and prison sentence, although its being phased out now...

I suppose the difference between Liddle and Steve Coogan is that Coogan created a character that is odious but your Liddle/Clarkson will write abhorrent things in their own name and then expect it to be somehow disregarded as 'the game' but it ends up swallowing them
Big question is why they think that it's ok to use their own name as if they don't agree with the hate, simple answer is they do believe it and do want to punch down (literally and metaphor in his case) .

When EpicJnrSnr was a teen he was listening to some LP for a while so i had to take him to a LP gig in Brixton - I had no idea who they were, and i thought they were very odd, and something didn't quite jive with the staging and choreography. Couldn't quite put my finger on it. But when the Watkins story came out it somehow explained that there was something not right going on with the band. I know the other guys were not part of it, but some of that oddness seemed to come across. I don't think anyone listens to them anymore.
Another art and artist thing is Eric Gill, he of Gill Sans, and the sculpture at BBC Bush House. Was a resident in Ditchling for a while, but he has an unsavory reputation of abusing his daughters, yet his work is still on public display
