Terrifying, funny and impressive all at the same time!
The pace of technological change is amazing. I feel very old at 57...😁

Broke the world record - hope it was dope tested.
I can’t help feeling that they had to tear the finish line before the robot got to it or the poor thing would have lost its mind when it ran into it.
also, I feel like bipedal robots are a massive waste of time. Just because it’s how we humans do things, doesn’t seem to make sense for anything else.
I think they're more of a technology demonstration instead of an actual product, but given that if you want to replace a human sometimes it helps if you use a human shaped robot.
Bloody e runners.

this. Our environment is built for human shaped agents: having robots that are able move around it is helpful. Or doom-laden. One of the two

At least we have almost made it to retirement age before it all really goes to pot. I am 58 and didn't plan on retiring but can't see me still having my easy and well paid job in a year or two (IT) and VERY big changes are happening. All those young people who are currently coding are going to be in trouble.
The robot spectators ringing bells and holding signs are what make this all ok 🙂
They also need to be human shaped to help them be more readily accepted… I can’t be the only one to feel an immediate shock of empathy seeing humanoid robot runners hitting the ground… that’s a feeling that can be harnessed.
From what I saw on the video none of them were running. They were all speed walking as they had one foot on the ground at all times.

yep put wheels on em and they'll go faster 🙂

And the more human like movers were the slowest. The fastest ones could have been good candidates for the ministry of silly walks.
Apparently, the robot that won is still going

I've seen the Olympics enough times to know that having one foot on the floor at all times is clearly not a requirement for those speed walking races!
The one at the 7 second mark would be excellent for sending to the bar to get a round in!

Helped over the finish line so it won't count. DNF.
I really don't see the point, if you want to cover that distance quickly with a robot then use a drone. If you want to do it quickly with a human shaped thing then use a Kenyan.
