I mean in the sense that her part got seriously dialled-back following a lot of fan-hate.

Why was Hux a spy?
He literally answered that himself in the film. He didn’t want Kylo Ren to win
Enjoyed it.
I think that the issue with films like this when comparing with what we had when I was a kid is that there it too much going on all the time.
Empire Strikes Back had a couple of big set piece scenes, but the rest of it was people acting and telling the story. This had so many WOW moments that things got lost.
Good to see Wedge again, shame that Snap Wexley ended up as a grease spot on the surface of a Star Destroyer.
Thank Christ there’s no more of those to keep the Christmas cinema tradition going! That was exhausting, just fighting to stay awake for 2 hours.
So is there any back story to Palpatine's son hiding his family? - they obviously were located and Mum & Dad captured but were able to withhold Rey's location from a Sith - seems very underdeveloped in terms of storyline.

Why was Hux a spy?
He'd gone from being top boy in the First Order to being basically the gopher. You might think this is an overreaction, but bear in mind, he's a total space-arsehole, by definition all of the first order seniors are literal psychopaths. I also liked the quick twist on the "they shot me, look" thing, Richard E Grant is the best empire general since Mr Bronson.
seems very underdeveloped in terms of storyline.
One of the biggest problems with the franchise.
The original trilogy is scripture for the devotees.
Introduce anything that wasn't in the originals and it's met with suspicion: midichlorians, palpatines kid, other jedi powers apart from mind tricks etc
It's an impossible task really though I suspect not having the 3 movie story arc mapped out from the start hasn't helped
Thank Christ there’s no more of those to keep the Christmas cinema tradition going!
Dream on. Loads more coming. Spin offs from this trilogy. Knights of the Old Republic. Other inter trilogy stuff etc.
Disney need to recoup the investment and I'm sure the rights go back to Lucas after a while
Ah well, I’m sure my son was pretty bored by it too, so we’ll find something else to watch.
That was exhausting, just fighting to stay awake for 2 hours.
Felt exactly the same.
Absolutely loved that 🙂

Doesn’t seem to be, tbh I saw them and though “oh that’s Luke’s Aunt and Uncle, maybe they had a kid after Luke left” then I remembered their charred corpses... saying that they’d only be about the 7th and 8th characters in the film who either died, or appeared to have died prior to them being on screen.
Anyway, there’s of course form in SW for the families of Sith Lords to hide from them.
The plothole I struggled with was where Rylo Ken got the Tie fighter he had at the end. He was left stranded, but seemed to have called and Imperial Uber to follow Rey. How?
He’s on a crashed Death Star. One assumes there’d be garages full of the things and at least one would have some petrol in it.
Well I loved it, full on IMAX to do duty to a film like that. I can't get all the hate, so it's got a few plot holes - ffs it's just a fun story take at face value and enjoy the ride and nostalgia.
Was the old lady on tatooine one of the original cast?
I've read a couple of things that seems to indicate the old lady may be Aunt Beru, but she is listed merely as "Tatooine Elder" in the cast list so maybe not.
Aunt Beru was one of the charred corpses mentioned by P-Jay above. I thinks shes just some nosey old woman.
Yup, not crispy enough to be Aunt Beru. Just read that the little chap that hacked into 3PO was voiced by Moaning Myrtle, too.
Having been a fan since seeing Ep 4 on the day I passed my cycling proficiency test in '78 I really enjoyed it for what it is - a proper Star Wars film.
Given what has come in this trilogy before it I thought it was about as good as it could be. Force Awakens was a bit shit, Last Jedi better but too befuddled. Still had no sense of worry for Rey or any warmth towards her, Kylo was far more interesting.
It would have been better if the last Jedi had revealed Rey's parentage and this one could have been a proper will she won't she join the dark side.
But that would have involved Disney actually planning all 3 movies in advance.
I love star wars, but I'm not an Uber fan and enjoyed it all on the big screen on face value. But I do feel that Disney have squandered the opportunity with what they've done with these three.
Rogue one however is my third favourite of all the films. I think that's great.
But that would have involved Disney actually planning all 3 movies in advance.
Seems staggeringly stupid that they didnt!
Aunt Beru was one of the charred corpses mentioned by P-Jay above.
Is dying in an earlier episode of Star Wars a hindrance to a later comeback these days?
I think it would have been a nice - if somewhat sentimental - ending to have a ghosted revisit of Luke from A New Hope on Tattooine as Rey surveyed it.
was ok up to the final battle. Its like hollywood can't do endings.
Still far far too many characters in the movies.
It was ok, quite entertaining, solid 7/10, but certainly not earth shattering like the original 3 films. Thought there was quite a nice circularity in the very final ending...
I'd echo the praise for Richard E Grant, a commanding screen presence despite the bit part.
Some of the derivative stuff satisfyingly well done (Ren/Vader redemption), but some of it/much of it painfully clumsy (e.g boardroom force choke, evil pointy toothed Rey).
For all that it will get criticised for being largely safe and formulaic, I did really like the innovation of the "force connection" element of the storyline between Ren and Rey, and also the way they expanded the dream sequence type stuff both in TLJ and this one. There's a certain degree of creative bravery there which has to be acknowledged.
Where did the yellow light saber come from at the end?
The way that major character Hux got dispatched in such an offhand manner was symptomatic of how ill thought through the three films hang together as a trilogy.
I heard that Lando and AWOL stormtrooper mammoth lady were going to be in a spin-off together? Hence the awkward scene between them and her strange facial expressions.
I’d heard Zorii Bliss was essentially spin-off prep but my Google fu is failing me.
Where did the yellow light saber come from at the end?
Temple guards in Rebels and Cline Wars cartoons. The Sith Temple with Palpatine was very reminiscent of the one in Rebels where Vader fights Asoka.

In the films, anyway. In the fluff, it means you're a sentinel, which is a sort of Common Sense Jedi. Green means you're a nerd jedi and blue means you're a fighty jedi. Your lightsaber takes on its colour based on your own personality so basically the sorting lightsaber put Rey in Hufflepuff.
What's violet?
Bad ass?
Took the 9 year old (total fan boy, has more knowledge of the Star Wars storylines than me) and 6 year old (just loves the fighting and flying bits) on monday morning.
Both of them absolutely loved it and can't wait to see it again. I enjoyed it too but am aware that at 46 and having loved the original trilogy that this one is for my kids not for me.
Tough gig pleasing all the old gits who hang on to the originals as best and then bringing in a new audience too in a time when there is so much more competition for their attention.
Thought they did a great job of tying it all together. New ones have to be faster and contain more than the old ones.
No it isnt!
Ah. I haven't watched the animated stuff. Just knew the established colours from the films
Was pleasantly surprised, sneaked in after leaving work early and having a few hours to kill. I think they handled the Carrie Fisher parts well and, although there was a few plot holes and wasted characters (Hux etc), it rolled along nicely. Not amazing but a good 7/10 effort, much better than the previous one.
Ah. I haven’t watched the animated stuff.
You should watch Rebels, its very good.
Purple is for huge ego, Samuel L Jackson insisted on it so he stood out.
Well, I enjoyed it very much!
Heals a giant snake-worm, doesn’t heal Poe’s arm - selfish.
Otherwise it’s was very entertaining - just what you want from Star Wars. Although I would’ve thought with all the tech the Emperor wouldn’t have had to have been permanently hooked up to an embalming machine
Did anyone else think Richard E Grant was the spy?
I wonder if not seeing the trailer is the difference between enjoying or not, they set an expectation. I liked it and the return of palpatine worked because I didn't think too much about the plot. I thought rey was a Kenobi that was waiting for a reveal.
You would have thought that ghost yoda, Vader and kenobi would have told Luke at the end of Jedi that the Emperor had survived instead of watching the ****ing dancing Ewoks. lol
Also the kiss between Ben and Rey I,never got any romantic vibes between them from previous movies and couldn’t suss out if they were related or not
Disney innit
Purple is for huge ego, Samuel L Jackson insisted on it so he stood out.
Yes, yes, unleash your bitterness.
He asked, quite nicely according to Lucas and SLJ anyway, and Lucas agreed after a bit of persuasion.
There's no doubt some very geeky 'canon' way there's a reason, but it's because SLJ wanted one.
You would have thought that ghost yoda, Vader and kenobi would have told Luke at the end of Jedi that the Emperor had survived instead of watching the **** dancing Ewoks. lol
Haha!
The biggest stretch for me was that Palpatine had had a son with someone (no relationships mentioned in any other films) and that his son was so, well, affable and normal looking! He should have had evil pointy cheek bones and a prominent executive shnoz lol
Some good explanation here -->
If it wasn't for well placed ramps on the Imperial Star Destroyer outer surfaces football robot and tannoy on a wheel would have been stuck.
You would have thought that ghost yoda, Vader and kenobi would have told Luke at the end of Jedi that the Emperor had survived
You would have thought that real actual yoda and kenobi would have known that Palpatine, the bloke they were working for was a a sith lord too!!
Yoda, shittest Jedi ever!
Seeing Richard E. Grant reminded me of the following;</span>
(NSFW - sweary)
Yoda, shittest Jedi ever
Thats Count Dooku, plays No.2 to an evil Sith Lord, taking an active part in all the shenanigans, betrayals and bluffs and then acts surprised when his boss gets him killed.
You would have thought that real actual yoda and kenobi would have known that Palpatine, the bloke they were working for was a a sith lord too!!
Yoda, shittest Jedi ever!
Noob, the dark side clouds everything
Enjoyed it a lot but cant for the life of me see how this is the last one in the saga.
Of course it's not the last one. They'll remake them all again in 20 years time with Rey as a grey-haired hippy and some even more powerful jedi/sith types who can do even more magic. And they still won't have invented wifi.
So a ship left in the desert for years hasn’t been scavenged and starts straight away. Likewise a sunken X Wing and Tie Fighter that’s been left on the remains of a Death Star in the sea.

There's a line in one of the prequels where they admit that their force seeing stuff isn't working properly. Not really hard to think that the sith could hide themselves from jedi though, it's just basically a bit of equal-but-opposite, like Young Nastyman
Not really hard to think that the sith could hide themselves from jedi though
Sheesh, that was my point in response to the moaner about Palpatine remaining hidden after his death!!!
Saw it this evening. Someone was clapping at the back of the cinema at the end. I can only imagine because it had finished and they could go home.
Space horses! Not even Wedge Antilles could recover it from that
Space horses!
The ships are still in atmosphere at that point, so they're not space horses. They were a bit shite though, I'll give you that.
7/10 for me. Spent the first 20mins getting over TLJ story problems, then was quite good.
Agree too many ships arrived to help at the end, and the kiss between Rey and Ben was out of sync
Spotted Jody Comer, Wedge, guessed one of the Ewoks would be Warwick Davies. Bizarrely I thought I saw Rhod Gilbert celebrating with the resistance at the end, albeit very unlikely!
Kind of wish the emperor had won- his character was great!
Lol some if you think way too much!!!

I think that's mostly because Poe's a pure fanny and doesn't deserve healing.
The main moan on the car in the way home was my daughter ranting that resurrecting Palpatine with no previous hints wss very poor poor story telling.
But rarely do all 4 of us agree to see a film together it we enjoyed it
I loved the crashed death star
Oh and bloke behind me on the way out was saying R2D2 is the only character in every film

Good that. Sums it up very well - which is good for me because I had actually completely forgotten everything that happened in the pile of shite.
R2D2 is not in Solo, C3PO and R2 are in every other film including rogue one.

Have you not read any of the Hybrid car threads on here?
Watched it with the kids 7&9 they loved it so job done.
It flowed better than the last one (that ridiculous momentum killing casino scene)
Lando was comfortably out-acted by Carrie Fisher & she's dead
The battle at the end was just a bit daft- bazillions of ships!, the beacon on the ground was daft, moving it onto withnails ship was daft- why couldn't all the star destroyers have one? space horses definitely daft
Mostly it's just a bit daft that the planet killing cannon underneath each Star destroyer was a giant self destruct penis that detonated after one laser blast from an x-wing
I still enjoyed it, Adam driver stole the show , but the 3 heroes were well cast & it worked well
At least there's still Rogue One!
That pitch meeting is brill lolz.
Enjoyed it a lot but cant for the life of me see how this is the last one in the saga.
It was completely set up for there being a next one.
We need more Thrawn IMHO.
Saw it today with Beaker Jr (aged 8) he fidgeted for about the last 45 mins and I left underwhelmed.
Yep I was left a little underwhelmed. I liked the force awakens but it left me a bit worried that they were just going to remake the original trilogy so I was ok with the last Jedi more than most as at least it tried to take it a different way .
So today I left the cinema thinking that JJ has basically ignored the 2nd film in the trilogy, say what you like about George Lucas but both his trilogy’s had a coherent story that ran through the 3 films .
Knights of REN turned out to be a bit of a non event .
say what you like about George Lucas but both his trilogy’s had a coherent story that ran through the 3 films .
It was the same story in each one (trilogy), which probably helped!
Haven't seen this yet, but the first 2/3s of this trilogy has been a repeat of the same story as well.
I'm expecting absolutely nothing when I see this, so hopefully it'll be good.
I enjoyed it. A bit cheesy at times but that's par for the course. I imagine if we all saw the first (4th) one for the first time now we'd be ripping it to bits. Just a religious theme with fluorescent dildos etc....
I had a genuine LOL at the horses. Haven't the films always had daft stuff in it like this? They're not meant to be some stuffy old Charlton Heston type 'epic' from the 60's. You're meant to find bits of it funny.
Saw it tonight at the IMAX, enjoyed it far more than TLJ.
Only question I have, is if Palpatine is Reys grandfather then when did he have kids? The age of her parents in the flashback would imply they were a similar age to Luke and Leia but that's around the time Mace ****ed him up (nobody would want to shag him after that) and you would presumably heard all about his wife and young family before that when he was keeping up the Senator front. Missed a generation methinks.

I expect a sith lord can get laid if he wants too unencumbered by needing to get married.
That pitch meeting is ace and it's saved me the cost of going to the pictures to see the film now 🤣
Also, when does Lucas get the rights back so he can retcon these last three out of existence?
