Nick Brendon has died. 54, "natural causes" apparently. He's been "troubled" for a while but seemed to have come out the other side.
Family statement:
”We are heartbroken to share the passing of our brother and son, Nicholas Brendon. He passed in his sleep of natural causes. Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor and for the characters he brought to life over the years. In recent years Nicky has found his passion in painting and art. Nicky loved to share his enthusiastic talent with his family, friends and fans. He was passionate, sensitive, and endlessly driven to create. Those who truly knew him understood that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was. While it’s no secret that Nicholas had struggles in the past, he was on medications and treatment to manage his diagnosis and he was optimistic about the future at the time of his passing. Our family asks for privacy during this time as we grieve his loss and celebrate the life of a man who lived with intensity, imagination, and heart. Thank you to everyone who has shown love and support.”
Well, that’s rather put a dampener on my day. RIP.
Didn’t his twin brother die relatively young as well? Must be very hard for the family.
very sad to hear this, Buffy was massively enjoyed by me on it's first time round, and had the pleasure of watching it all through again only a year or so ago with my 14 yo lad who enjoyed it greatly.
The loss of Michelle Trachtenberg and Nicholas Brendan at young ages goes to show how much damage success can have
And then from the personal, selfish side, hearing that the continuation series has been parked is a shame and surprising considering how much support there seemed to be, would have been wonderful to see how these characters were later in life
I'll rewatch Buffy at some point. Nick had a difficult character to play amongst the rest of the gang, unpowered, rejected by Buffy and had to play the comic element as well as being ridiculed 🤔. He did a good job.
I can't say I know much about of his post Buffy work but I'll remember him for his Xander character.
I was wrong about his twin.
I am sad to hear this. I loved Buffy back in the day and it still was decent when rewatched a few years ago.
Nicholas struggled with drug and alcohol issues and was also convicted of domestic violence. I guess being part of something as big and iconic as Buffy at a relatively young age and then not having much success afterwards was difficult for him.
RIP
