First saw him in To Sir With Love but always remember him for Little Nikita and Sneakers
In the heat of the night for me. To sir with love a close second. Those 2 roles were so inspiring to me as young man.

In The Heat Of The Night was a career peak. Still an uncomfortable watch today, released in the same year as To Sir With Love.

How come he is a Sir? I thought only British citizens could use the title but others could be honorary but not use the nominative?
Not that I really care, it's a daft system for the most part so as far as I'm concerned he can call himself what he wants.

A very good film, with Tony Curtis.
A truly great actor. I remember watching In the Heat of the Night as a kid, and thinking it’s a good job things have got better ☹️. An astonishing film for it’s time though, and Steiger was also great in it. Funnily enough I seem to remember it was shown on telly a lot more back then, hopefully it’ll be on again soon…

Totally agree. For me he was one of the agents of real change though his acting.
Sneakers and Deadly Pursuit for me. I’ve heard other actors who he gave advice to early in their careers speak highly of him many times.

And that seems like a harsh response to a simple question, I wasn't slagging him off. There was some genuine, heartfelt tributes to him on the telly news, I didn't know anything about him, but he was clearly a loved and respected bloke.

We watched In The Heat Of The Night recently with some friends with it projected onto a reasonably big screen in their back garden. It's still amongst my favourite films.
