How long!? I’ve lost a decade somewhere...

Thanks for that, big fan here.

Excellent, I'll take a look at that. Joy Division were my favourite band growing up. I was in a band with one of my closest school pals Andy Poole who now plays keyboards with Peter Hook and The Light. He's in that YouTube preview. Andy wouldn't play any Joy Division songs back then because it wasn't his thing...😄

Whoa, I remember the first time I heard love will year us apart, played on the radio by Mark Radcliffe in I think his 10pm show back in the day on Radio 1...and that was to mark the 15th anniversary!
I went to school with Curtis' daughter also.

Game changing band

Strange, was talking about Unknown Pleasures to my younger bother yesterday. How he used to steal my (VERY RARE!) version from my bedroom and play it when he was a nipper and I was out. How I had the t-shirt in '79 and he DJed 20 years later wearing one. Obviously I'd stopped wearing mine as they'd got too well known 😉
No interest in cover versions (Peter Hook's or anyone else's tbh)

Number 12. Of all time. On one of the most respected ranking sites of all. That's all.

Control was the last film to make me cry.

Time for some music...

Ignoring how ridiculous Peter Hook looks on stage… this is great… this lineup make for a really tight band… basically Monaco and Hooky’s son, I think.

Peter Hook’s books on his life and times are very entertaining and worth a read for any JD / NO fans

Influential iconoclast. And arguably not very nice.
Hard to argue with his musical contribution though.

Forty years ago, already! It's so much longer than he lived. I'll watch Hooky's tribute tonight. Thanks OP.

How good is that Hooky and the Light gig. Less than 2 years of recordings to create 3 hours of material that is still brilliant 40 years on.

It's going to be a late night, my fledgling bass-ing needs a few more Joy Division versions.

Ian Curtis died when I was 5. In retrospect he left a huge hole in my experience of music. I have been fascinated by his story for the last 30 years.

Hugely enigmatic, soulful and such a waste...

Kelvin,
Loved that - I have Atmosphere down as a song to be play at my funeral ... may have to change that.
I missed going to see Joy Division in Derby - because my train back to Nottingham was later and my flat mates buggered off without me. Their comment on the whole nights was “the singer danced in a really weird way” and that must have been March / April time 1980.

Am I the only one who thinks that Peter Hook just can’t sing?

You are certainly not the only one. I would say, being able to sing isn't one of my criteria for music, having a decent voice most definitely is.

If you read his autobiography, Hooky is certainly a bit of a knob ... I think he regards himself as being a “character”
