120 years-old solid 9" wall. A couple of partial courses of bricks have shaled over many years and the surface of the affected bricks can be brushed off in a cloud of orange dust (one side of the wall only)
I've been putting off chopping out and replacing; the mortar lines are fine and I can see the mortar being pushed off as the new brick is pushed into place, or is there a gadget/trick?
Water seal slows the disintegration (it's a garden wall so permeability isn't an issue) I guess because water/frost can't get in. Is there a better treatment?
TIA
Once they start spalling, they're pretty much at the end of their life. Is there a DPC?
Chop out & replace if it's the odd brick/ course, or replace wall or build a new skin of brickwork in front I'd suggest
