I'm moving up to the Peak District in the middle of Jan and need some advice and suggestions on renting with bikes.

Need to start looking for somewhere to live that is bike friendly. Ideally it would be with a garage or room for storage of a couple of bikes- this isn't looking likely though.

What do those of you who rent, particularly 1 bed flats, do with your bikes?

Even better, does anyone know of anyone who rides who is looking to rent a room in the Buxton area?

I used to live in Buxton, Fairfield had / has a reputation. My OH family still live there, they reckon that this Estate Agent is ok

Most of the agents are decent in the town centre. Avoid Fairfield.

It's expensive for what it is. As one of the agents told me a few weeks ago "There's no jobs here, you move here to work elsewhere". Also reported increased demand for one bed flats due to benefit changes, often attracting people from Manchester who can't get housed there (?)

Better areas start SK17 6.... fwiw

Does it have to be Buxton?
Might also be worth looking in places like Chapel-en-le-Frith, Whaley Bridge etc.

Avoid Dove Holes - should really be called Shit Holes and there's nothing there!

Dove Holes was voted the ugliest town in Britain a few years ago.

Chapel might be worth a look, Whaley can get expensive but has a great bike shop (with a very interesting flat above it!)

Can't imagine Buxton being 'rough'. Never spent much time there admittedly, just driving through. How is it rough? Bored kids/petty crime, or that insular small-town mentality where everyone kicks each other's heads in of a weekend. I imagine it's a bit 'Dead Man's Shoes' like most small towns. Grew up in a small town. Never again. Remote countryside or large city for me.
