Advice welcomed please:

My daughter is moving into a new place, probably only for a year. Letting agency has sent her some "Spark Energy" guff which looks like an umbrella tariff for gas & lecky.

I will do some reading but don't have time to do loads - anyone ahppen to know if this is a rip of some sort. Is there a better way for rental customers ? Is there anything that's NOT available (I'd send her to somewhere like money-saving expert to join an auto-swap scheme but not sure if they "work" over only a year)

??

Check they have correct opening meter readings, if possible.

You could switch, assuming there's not anything in the tenancy which rules it out. Might depend on the type of property/landlord/management company. Over a year it could be worth it. Or if she isn't using much then just leave it as it is.

Biggest issue is getting the previous details to make sure that everything is correct, then shop around for the best deals, i seriously doubt the owner/management company will have it locked into anything, as they don't tend to want any management of that stuff, she sounds youngish so should be all over the online stuff, just shop around and get a decent deal and keep all evidence of moving in readings and so on.

Take time stamped photos of all meters as soon as she moves in.
Send copies to letting agency stressing she is not liable for any prior usage,
Never happened to me but a ( ex ) colleague had a nightmare with energy company chasing them for old bills, now always does the photo thing and has no issues

Thanks all
The stuff she's een sent includes predicted usage, not sure how this has been derived (I guess they may have had thew contract last year with previous residents). Meter reading - for sure !

It will just be from the previous supplier by default. She's free to switch as usual.
