Another shout for Dillinger here...

Been getting right into them lately, check out Black Bubblegum, Milk Lizard, Farewell Mona Lisa, Widower... I could go on!

Tried to link some vids but failed miserably ๐Ÿ™

It makes no sense at all that nobody's mentioned Machine Head. Maybe they're too obvious?

Not metal by a long way but if I need to get a rubbish song out of my head Minor Threat all the way. You wouldn't want to come back as their drummer!

+1 for Mastodon, although I thought The Hunter was a bit rubbish. Leviathan is my favourite album I think.

If you like Architects and that sort of thing have a listen to The Safety Fire

And maybe a bit metalcore but I love Every Time I Die, they have some awesome riffs.

metallica went a bit too cutesy after seek and destroy really.(IMHO)

I always found that early suicidal tendencies got me all excitable and ready to ride like a loon

strangely it had to be really hardcore gabba for climbing comps though ๐Ÿ˜•

Check out a Danish band called Volbeat. Not totally heavy metal as such. More like a mix of 80s thrash, rockabilly & Elvis. Sounds pants, but works really really well.
All albums are immense. But for me my favourite is Guitar Gangsters and Cadillac Blood.

I'd say Sabbath every time but didn't really think they met OP requirements. Can still find new and interesting sounds in them now. Supernaught on the way home from work tonight sounded amazing.

I misread and thought he said more Metaliica and less Slipknot. Opposit of what I enjoy to be honest.

Some shoutyish bands I enjoy, Stone Sour, As I Lay Dying, Lamb of God, Slipknot, Municipal Waste, Mastodon.

I'd take my original suggestions over them any day though.

Opeth
Between the Buried and Me
Primordial
The Atlas Moth
Kyng
Mastodon
Electric Wizard
Crowbar
Cave In
Converge
YOB

Is that enough? I could go on...

Somehow forgot about Carcass. I love the production on this, the guitar tone is so aggressive without sounding too processed and compressed like a lot of metal can. 5150 + JCM800 apparently.

Oh and Tankard!

metal bands these days just aren't mental enough

Pffffftttt

Justin Godfrey, guitarist and mainman with doom metal band The Abominable Iron Sloth, was arrested after calling cops to say he was the "Angel of Death," had an assault weapon and had been eating mushrooms.

The 28-year-old told officers from Oroville Police Department, Butte County, California, that he "needed a ride to a lot of places," and discussed his belief the world was about to end.

Officers carefully approached him on his porch at 7.30am on October 27, but when they asked him to put down his weapon he did. They searched his home and discovered a second weapon which had been modified, which is an offence in California. Godfrey was charged with two felonies related to the guns and jailed, with bail set at $30,000.
