Help me avoid going to Majorca, hiring a road bike for a week.
The missus and I need need a holiday location for early May. Ideally we'd like:
4 hour flight max
Decent May weather
Good bike hire (I can get new, well maintained D-A equipped carbon Giant for 130 Euros in Majorca)
Good riding (road or mountain. either way quite relaxed, but the roads should be well surfaced if I go road)
Good walking/hiking
That should do it. We've been to Soller in Majorca a couple of times which ticks all the boxes, but we're mid 30s and it doesn't feel right to have a 'regular' holiday location just yet!
Any advice? Ta

Some nice riding to be had around La Manga Club in Murcia. Good bike hire centre as well.
Blackpool???
Switzerland/Austria yo ucan swim in the lakes here and May can be quite hot.
Tenerife......stay away from the usual candidate of Playa de Las Americas. Good bike hire to be had and great road and (ahem) mountain biking to be had.
Ridley carbon road bikes for €145 for the week. Climb from sea level to 2500m distance is about 70k's.
More hiking trails than you can shake a stick at, even grab a fast ferry and take the 35 minute crossing to La Gomera and have a day or two hiking / biking there for something a little different.
So much to see and do and the weather in May is great.
Cheers all so far. Tenerife could be perfect - which hire company have you used Potdog, and where have you based yorself in the past?
Austria could be good too - definitely on the list although I'm leaning towards some watersports/beach option for a few of the days.
Spain less so, only because I feel like I've done a lot of holidays in mainland spain recently...
Ha, just seen the link - my eyesight doesn't pick them up on the new forum too well! 🙂
He he he...Sorry, couldn't resist!.
The road bikes are nowt to do with me. They are from a friendly bike shop in the seaside town of El Medano.
If I were coming here for a holiday, then I would probably look at El Medano as it is a more traditional Spanish seaside resort and is much more chilled that the Blackpool esque area of Playa de Las Americas. Los Cristianos is OK, a bit less commercialised than Las Americas, but still a busy tourist town nowadays. Don't be fooled by the holiday brochures which still refer to Los Cristianos as a quaint fishing port. It's a good decade or more since you could really class it as one of those!
Other options if you're interested in really getting away from it all are some of the Casa Rural's which are basically B&B's in the hills.
EDIT.. El Medano is a haven for watersports too.
Excellent Potdog, thanks.
If I was to tell you a couple of days in May I'd be in the area, can I book a couple of day rides with you as easily as that?
Ta.
check out Club La Santa in Lanzarote too.
Try these, I had a holiday with them a few years ago. It's B&B with cycling and ride guides. We had an awsome time. The villa is 30seconds from the beach, 10min walk to resteraunts, bars and clubs,
Thanks all. I'm really liking the idea of a normal holiday with two or three day excursions. I could definitely get that past my wife...
Three or four good options - that should do it... Thanks again.
Sure can. No commitment to taking a full week. Just book the days that you want.
Sorry..business concluded. Email me if you want to take it any further, email addy is on the website. Cheers! 😀
Or Italy on the riviera and the maritime alps
New hire bikes from Lapierre and Giant

Torbole - Lake Garda soooo many bike hire places. Great food/Scenery/walking/riding
Have a look at Mountain Edge We have a full fleet of Hire bikes and we're based in the Gorgeous Austrian town of Kitzbuhel. Huge lake is 10 minutes cycle away and the mountains are pretty accessible for non riders too.
Joyriders in Spain have a beach venue and a mountain venue. We stayed at the mountain one. Riding was really good, accomodation was very good (for a mtb holiday - we had a pool, hot tub on the roof overlooking the hills, and free beer). I decided not to take my 5 Spot, but hired one of their Stumpy FSR's which did the trick.
