I've been using MySMS, but it's starting to annoy me as they're pushing more features (moving stored texts from old phone to new phone, viewing old messages on other device etc) into their Premium app, which is £8.99 a year, which is a bit steep (IMO)
I don't particularly want any fancy functionality, I just a simple UI and be able to read/send texts on my phone, tablet, and any other device via a web login.
Any recommendations?
Telegram: cross platform. Secure. Free. One number across all devices.
Hangouts: Cross platform. Free. Not number specific.
Tried Telegram, but doesn't appear in the list of apps to pick as default SMS app on my phone?
Does it have to be an SMS?
Because whatsapp is the kind of messaging.
I suppose not, no, but I'll only be using it to send SMS messages (to my non smartphone owning mum and dad f'rinstance)
I'm using chomp sms.
It's ok nothing annoying to report
Oops never read the web login bit
Cortana on Android should be able to at least notify any Windows 10 device that you have a message and you can reply to them.
At least it did, but it's stopped working for some reason for me.
However, just having tried it, I can send an SMS from Windows via Cortana on the phone. Just hit Cortana search in Windows and 'send text' and off you go. Can also speak to Cortana to send a text.
There was a note that they are going to or have added message history sync also.
Other option that doesn't work is Skype. They got SMS sync working in Skype on Windows Phone, but that's dead platform now, and they've always promised putting SMS sync into Skype Android but never have.
People still send texts? Wow.
I simply don't communicate with anyone who doesn't have WhatsApp. It annoyed my parents for a but they came round eventually and now use it as well.
Oh I know a few who won't do Whatsthingy, FB messenger, anything other than email or text.
Got no problem with text really as I get unlimited texts and the apps now nicely thread the stuff. Far easier than emails which get buried in all the spam and semi-spam (newsletters I did sign up for) and don't thread well when people reply with different subjects or add other people in the list.
