I know nothing about these... we got a range cooker with the house when we moved in and door is now knackered so won't close. Just looking and these things are pretty expensive! Anyone know of a good place to buy one? I wouldn't mind 2nd hand if its in ok order. Is it something you're allowed to fit yourself? The one we have is a dual fuel - gas/electric.

Cheers

Pretty sure you need gas Safe registered to fit the gas. I have a Kenwood range cooker, relatively cheap and still going strong after four years. Worth seeing if your current one can be fixed if nothing else is wrong with it.

I got ours from Safeer Appliances, in Sparkbrook Birmingham. They deal with "graded" appliances. About half price just because of a small dent on the side that's hidden by the kitchen units. I worked out from the model number that it was a Leisure cooker "specific to" Currys. (all that means is the number has a C on the end so if you want to price match at Currys they say sorry mate, different product). As it's round the corner from where we go for a curry when I phoned to register it for warranty they could see the serial number was not on the legit list and asked where I bought it from. "That curries place" I answered honestly. I got the warranty!

Cheaper deals still in the shop. If you've got a vehicle that will fit it in, treat yourself to a day out in Brum and have a balti triangle experience at lunch time.

Cheers - yep I think i'd best leave the fitting to someone who know what they're doing. The Kenwood looks good but we need a 100cm wide one really which they don't do.

When I was looking I found that the main oven in many 100 wide cookers was less than those in some 90s

Isn't that to run the pipework to the unit itself?

You can probably guess, IANA gas safe plumber.

I came here to say the same - I have bought a few graded kitchen appliances over the last few years including a lovely Britannia range cooker for less than half list price because it had a dent on the side (still cost lots but that's because they are almost £4k new). I usually find them via Ebay as lots of the graded appliance shops advertise on there too.

To the best of my knowledge, to stay legal you need an authorised engineer for anything that involves disrupting (disconnecting / reconnecting) the gas supply.

We bought a range master 900 off of Facebook market place, gas hob electric oven. There is also a 110 model if you need a even bigger one. Seen quite a few on there. Seems ok for how long we had it. Cheap second hand if you're happy to transport and (probably) clean a second hand one worth looking.

The last few gas cookers I've dealt with have a bayonet fitting for the gas which doesn't need a gas safe fitter. But they also need a tether to the wall which if that isn't fitted right will cause a gas safe fail.

The cooker will probably connect to gas via a rubber hose and a bayonet type fitting at the end. You don't need a gas Safe engineer to 'plug it in'

I've a belling. Had it since kitchen for reading redone so.....6 years I think. It works fine but I did notice a bit of paint has started to flake off a door. It's electric for the 2 ovens and grill, gas for the 8 rings.

I know of one going for sale in the next month, an elderly couple, south of Leicester, they struggle to lean down and use the bottom oven, so are getting a built-in put in with separate hob. Modern design, Belling iirc. I do have a pic of it, but cant post it on here.
Very similar to this one below, 900 wide. Gas hob, and, I think, electric ovens.
Belling cooker

This is a very weird story, and we have different definitions of honestly.

Our old range cooker has broken too. The manufacturer (Stoves) were unable to supply spare parts because it is 20 years old. They are therefore offering us about 25% off any of their brands (Stoves or Belling). Worth a try if your broken one is one of their brands and you can find a part that they can't supply.

A lot of the range type cookers seem to have good spares availability, so worth a check, unless something can just be bent back into shape?

Facebook marketplace for our £40 Smeg, still not bought a bulb for the oven.

Another Rangemaster fan here, bought second hand for £150, over £2000 new. Needed a clean and a new igniter when we got it and a new oven fan a year ago. Well made, dead easy to work on, spares readily available and cheap as chips.
We had a De Longhi previously and it was absolute junk.

I have had a SMEG - Symphony 90 Dual Fuel Range Cooker - Stainless Steel for the last 5 years with zero issues, think it was £300 from Currys.

We have a Rangemaster, the hobs and Ovens are very good, but the grill is crap. Its either full blast or hardly on. The difference between max and 1/2 a degree turn down is huge.

I just have to say (I know I am bragging) but my range cooker has a second oven with a rotisserie. It makes for wonderful roast chicken. 🙂
