...for a colleague who's leaving.

I know nothing about rum - can't stand the stuff! I know he's partial to a dark rum though.

Something around £30ish.

Ta!

Admiral Rodney is my current bottle I'm working through. Bit steamy at £50 a bottle but lovely

Kracken for a good dark one...

However..Red Leg rum is superb, and could get 2 bottles for £34 from amazon....

Mount Gay XO (Over budget unless on offer though)

Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is only £36 a bottle in Waitrose at the moment and is amazing.

For a much pricier but much nicer Rum. That one I've forgotten the name of from last Saturday that was £35 a shot 😯

I'd find out if the recipient actually likes spiced rums. I like my dark rums but can't stand the taste of the spiced ones. Anyone bought me some and it would sit on the shelve for the visitors to drink.

Most of what has been recommended so far I would class as golden rums. Around your price I would recommend Pussers Gunpowder Proof or Goslings Black Seal.

Thanks for the info so far.

I've already checked this with a close friend of his. Dark and dark spiced rums are his tipple.

The issue is... (surprise surprise) it's pretty taste dependant..

On recommendation from here i've had a bottle of Mount Gay XO and Diplomatico, and theough I drank them and they are towards the pricey end of the scale, I personally prefer the £17 red leg or Kracken...

The Dark Matter spiced rum is a love/hate thing, so a risky option.

The bottle of Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva goes down very well with all my guests, as does the Don Papa I have. Both definitely worth a punt.

Ginger beer for a dark and stormy. No lime. But a bit of waste using mixers for a quality rum.

Pussers gunpowder is ace. Makes your lips and nose go numb, which I like.

Rumbullion - preferred it to Kraken.

I bought the Mount Gay Black Barrel (£28 Waitrose) based on the recommendations in the other thread... very nice. Neat with one ice cube.

Mixers in good rum... nah!. It would be like putting Iron Bru in a fine malt

Mount Gay Black Barrel

This is indeed good stuff.

Spiced rim is not dark rum. It's spiced rum. Hence the name. 🙂

No recommendations but the mention of Pussers took me back to playing Ibble Dibble with Pussers No1 Painkiller in Sopers Hole BVI after an Atlantic crossing.
