Redhead gets herself worked up about nothing in particular.
So how's that news?
someone got offended, someone else would get offended if the card said ****.
the fact that nobody is allowed to be offended anymore is an idea i find quite offensive.
Are you offended by the fact that we are not allowed to make you offended?
I fail to see why we are still allowed to mock ginger people but we are enlightened enough [ok most of us are ] to not mock the disabled, black people, gays etc.
Mocking people for things they have no control or influence over is not reasonable IMHO.

christ, she's 30, obviousley puntin' out 3 gingers takes its toll on your looks too
I've got a bit of a thing for auburn. And when it said 30 year old I had quite high hopes....
Does time pass faster in York or something?
So...
It would be OK to say;
"Santa loves all kids, even **** ones"
"Santa loves all kids, even black ones"
"Santa loves all kids, even spastic ones"
Just checking how level the playing field is. Not trying to cause offense like.
A mince pie for the headline writer at the York Press I feel.
I have a ginger haired kid, one of two twin girls, one has brown hair and one ginger hair. If any of you rugged mountain biking types made that joke about her in front of her and her sister I would rip your throat out.
That is all
mother "snaps"

ok, i'm fat and i've had all sorts of crap thrown at me from all sorts (including rugged mountain bike types) but i don't go home and start ringing the newspapers everytime someone makes a fat joke on telly.
the noughties are going to be known for people moaning about everything until we can' say anything in public due to fear of being flogged

Er
You can do something about being fat, and you are a grown man. A very different situation

humour is mockery

mockery is everything
I enjoy mockery as much as the next person, but I'm not sure that always mocking the same groups of people for being different is a particularly great thing - especially when actual bullying of ginger kids is quite common.
I kind of find the card amusing and would possibly buy it for an adult mate who was ginger, but I can see why it could be pretty unpleasant for a ginger kid being bullied at school to see that in a shop.
Being a gingernut myself I am deeply offended.
🙂
The kid on the card even looks like me as a child.
I need compensation please.
CRC/Wiggle vouchers are fine.
and you could do something about that temper
Look - we all know its wrong and that's why we only take the piss from the safety of behind our computers. I wouldn't dare to take the piss out of your daughter face to face, and it's not because you have threatened to murder me if i did. I hope you can see the similarity between hyperbole in humour and your comment? I'm not going to take you literally, don't make the same mistake.

Lets live life to the full then and tell me all your racist jokes ?
I am not actually trying to ban humour or mockery ...it is the bit about mocking people for things they have no control over you missed ...it is more like bullying than humour
Do you laugh at disabled kids in wheelchairs, dwarves, thalidomide victims, pull faces at blind people and steal their dogs ...where is you line exactly?

sorry, beaten by 4 minutes!
seen him live did not do any Ginger jokes that I recall but a rather bad taste one about the Mc Cann child and gay IIRC.
Most of what people seem to be listing a genuine life affecting things (being blind, wheelchair bound etc).
Ginger hair is just that, ginger hair. It isnt a disability unless your dad doesnt have a sense of humour and prefers to tear peoples throats out, then you've got to spend your childhood growing up without a dad cos he's in prison for assault
Lets live life to the full then and tell me all your racist jokes ?
The thing is, there are some tasteless jokes that I do find amusing (yes even some racist ones) - but I can see that many people would find them offensive and unpleasant, so I wouldn't expose those people to them.
Maybe that makes me a hypocrite - to me it just seems like being honest with myself but trying to be sensitive to other peoples' feelings.

I work with a guy who has a ginger wife and 2x ginger kids. His house must proper stink of wee wee. I'll get me coat 😉 I have never actually heard him threaten violence over the usual workplace jibes. It's a joke ffs get over it!

I imagine that's a bit easier to say if the joke isn't ALWAYS about you though.
(I'm not a ginger by the way 😉 )
So, c'mon then let's dust down all the Bernard Manning jokes. I presume we are all comfortable with racism and homophobia. After all...
It's a joke ffs get over it!
Oh and...

Used to be a luxurious brunette. Now have it down to the wood. Grumm pretty much sums up my thoughts.

get a set of clippers and endure the baldy jibes then. 🙄
Well being of the slightly folically challenged nature, I get the mick taken out of me as well. But I don't bloody whinge about it, I take the mick back and laugh and joke and generally enjoy life instead of being offended at everything. Some folk need some lighten up juice seriously.
...another thing why are all the smilies bald?
😯
I am really offended now, can I sue STW towers?
...another thing why are all the smilies bald?I am really offended now, can I sue STW towers?
I too am offended I demand them to be withdrawn!!!!
FWIW, I don't have a problem with adults sharing racist or ginger jokes among themselves. In the pub, or the comedy club, or on this forum, or whatever the right environment. But that crosses the line IMHO as it puts the joke in an environment where it can cause someone issues, and as I said, I'd welcome you to come round to my house and tell that joke to my wife and kids and suffer their reaction!
Well being of the slightly folically challenged nature, I get the mick taken out of me as well.
Yeah you're talking about adults though aren't you - who presumably are confident enough to take it. Like I said I would happily give that card to an adult friend.
Don't see why it's 'PC gone mad' to think that bullying ginger children isn't a particularly nice thing to do.
Edit: djglover - yup exactly
just out of interest, I just trawled back through the short jokes thread and found at a quick glance:
dyslexia
epilepsy
irishness
being female (and hence menstruating)
Madeleine McCann
dwarfism
people with speech defects
people with missing limbs
transexuals
ageism
Why not the same sense of outrage on any of these?
Because they don't afflict any of you, I'd guess. Or do you find pretty well all jokes offensive at some level?
...another thing why are all the smilies bald?I am really offended now, can I sue STW towers?
I quite like them being a slap head myself.
Or do you find pretty well all jokes offensive at some level?
In the right context, no. A lot of jokes can be extremely funny or offensive depending on the context. Not sure that I'm too comfortable with picking on a group of *kids*. But hey, if that floats your boat knock yourself out.
2 of the guys I ride with are ginger and they get the p!ss ripped on a regular basis. Quite right too in my opinion, although I'd draw the line at saying that they were loved by Santa and tescos should quite rightly be chastised for those cards.
Coyote is clearly Ginger
This made me smile.

It would be OK to say;

Only if it's true .................. there's no point lying to kids.
Although personally, I can't stand the arsehole, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was a racist bigot.
...............never did figured out why I didn't get a Scalextric set.
Apparently the truth is Tescos had to withdraw it as it was false advertising, no one loves Ginger kids.
OK, from the above we should ban humour as just about every joke on the thread about short jokes has something that could offend someone or something. Every popular comedian gets close to the 'line' and therefore should all be charged with offensive behaviour. I would use a smiley but as pointed out previously they offend people.
So mods, any humourous threads must now be closed immediately, all smilies must be removed, any subject that divides opinion must be removed etc, etc
I despair
Gingerism,
the last bastion of acceptable bullying! I confess I do make fun of ginger friends, just the same as my hairy friends, overweight friends etc and they make fun of me, but... Funny as it may be kids do suffer as a result of cards like that. Someone made a list of previous tasteless joke victims, but you don't see any of them on Christmas cards.
Ban everything!!!! Equilibrium is coming!!!!!!!!
So mods, any humourous threads must now be closed immediately, all smilies must be removed, any subject that divides opinion must be removed etc, etc
As explained above, its about context - eg jokes that might be acceptable in the pub with your mates might not be acceptable for a teacher to say in school
Is the concept really so hard to grasp?
SANTA Claus last night condemned ginger haired children, insisting they freak him out and will never be welcome at the North Pole.
( and I will point out to all the po-faced internet heroes that I am fat, ginger and going bald - I'm off to rip my own throat out ).
Are we in school?
dyslexia
epilepsy
irishness
being female (and hence menstruating)
Madeleine McCann
dwarfism
people with speech defects
people with missing limbs
transexuals
ageism
there was a joke about Hora?
Tescos were just being nice.
In reality he proper hates ginger kids
I think Grumm sums it up pretty well so far
As for comedians getting near the bone - they can do this [as can your mates]because we know they do not mean it.
Imagine if Nick Griffin told a racist joke for example.
Again Gingerism is the last area where we are allowed to pick on people I just see it as bullying really. We have stopped mocking other groups why do we continue with ginger people ... no one has even attempted to answer that one yet.
We have stopped mocking other groups why do we continue with ginger people ... no one has even attempted to answer that one yet.
Probably associated with all that raping and pillaging their ancestors were responsible for.
Again Gingerism is the last area where we are allowed to pick on people
Not sure about that. We've got a lad at work who in three months has not shown even an inkling of initiative, and in that short space of time he has picked up the following nicknames
Fungus (looks like Fungus the Bogeyman)
Pooh Bear (a bear of very little brain)
Daddy Mac (one half of Kris Kross, after he came in to work one morning with his polo shirt on back to front and sat through the morning briefing completely oblivious)
So we can still take the mickey out of kcufwits as well.
Not funny for kids....they can't change can they? it and assume its pretty much continual throughout their school life 😥 Wife had a hard time at school, my Mrs still hates standup cos she knows she'll get the p**s ripped every time...though last time some Aussie comic looked at me and said "he's a bit burly I'll shut up now"...
ah but you dont mock the black ones, the disabled, the gay one do you ?
As I said I am not trying to ban humour or mocking but just about things you cant alter - I assume the lad above could pay more attention to whether his polo shirt is on the right way round for example but doubt he can do much about his intelligence[or lack of] so that may be un fair or unkind ... I guess it depends on whether everyone takes the poi55 out of everyone though or the motive or the motive behind it humour can be inclusive or exclusive so it depends.
At our works for exampl I mock the Muslims here and the gay ones and at times as they mock me for mountain biking and not eating meat it can just be harmless banter but gingerism is STILL socially accepted where as a all the other isms are generally frowned apon.
Nice answer ernie bit I reckon the ginger ones may be the aboriginals here and the reast of us immigrants 😉
Having spent my younger school years being bullied for nothing other than the colour of my hair, I recall how i used to plead with my mother to have it dyed black. Because, frankly, being verbally and physically abused day and night (prep school) because of the way you look is pretty grim after a while.
I couldn't GAS as an adult, as there's always a riposte for a c*ck thinking they're funny having a go at you for the way you look. Usually they are stupid (mainly stupid) or northern.
However, I draw the line at tearing out throats. Have you seen the mess an artery makes? 😀
Probably associated with all that raping and pillaging their ancestors were responsible for.
Eh? The celts were here first. Now gerroff my manor..!
I imagine that's a bit easier to say if the joke isn't ALWAYS about you though.(I'm not a ginger by the way )
Joke isn't ALWAYS about ginger kids though is it. I remember, as a kid, that ANY feature was used to pick on you. Tall, small, fat, thin, ear size, hair style, hair colour, face shape, upbringing, parents car, parents hair colour, parents choice of garden shrubbery. There's a whole raft of cards out there that put posh old fashioned people in a bad light, should they be upset too?
There IS a line, but I don't think that card crosses it. There's a difference between something being used as humour and something being used in spite. Turn it round and say "northern kids" or "blonde kids" and I wouldn't give two hoots, in fact I'd probably laugh out loud despite having been both.
ha ha ha. look at her ginger kids!
cant complain them away can you fatty??!
No one is saying kids are not cruel I am just suggesting adults should have grown out of it.. I assume you dont act like a child and pick on people who are Tall, small, fat, thin, ear size, hair style, hair colour, face shape, upbringing, parents car, parents hair colour do you?
It's all balls. I'm a right little shortar$e & get some proper stick at work, 'oy Bilbo', 'now then Bonzai', 'right there's 4 of you searching this morning, take Jimmy & he can do under the beds', etc etc etc. Even Officer Rahim takes the pi$$, but would I dare say anything back to him about his ethnicity, no but I do take the mick out of his accent.
Frankly i couldn't care less cos If theyr'e taking the water out of me theyr'e leaving someone else alone!
I guess it depends on whether everyone takes the poi55 out of everyone though or the motive or the motive behind it humour can be inclusive or exclusive so it depends.
I would say so yes. It's an environment were any display of stupidity is pounced on and the piss taken, whoever it is. I think it would definitely come under the umbrella of banter rather than bullying.
ha ha ha
'under the beds'. i like it.
sorry.
Again Gingerism is the last area where we are allowed to pick on people I just see it as bullying really. We have stopped mocking other groups why do we continue with ginger people ... no one has even attempted to answer that one yet.
Except that we haven't stopped mocking all other groups of people, what we have done is stopped mocking a few groups of people that have been seriously oppressed by society in the past. I'm pretty sure that we haven't enslaved gingers, or passed any anti-ginger legislation, but I'm a dumb blond, so what do I know! 🙂
I am quite pleased that this uproar has uproared. I hadn't seen this card before it did and my brother is ginger and so is one of his sons. I just hope that my local Tesco's hasn't taken this off the shelves as he will find it well funny - I should go & find one.
No, really. He will find it funny. Because he understands that IT'S A JOKE. And likewise he will take the mick out of my ears being a bit sticky out-y (my uncle used to call me Wingnut) and the fact I am a bit short and that my hair is thinning a bit and soon I will be bald like my dad. SO WHAT?! It's a joke. HA HA.....I can't do anything about the target of his humour, but so what?
It's all about being adult in an adult world. I'm pretty sure that the only people buying this card are the people who know that the recipient will find it funny.
The other day I was in Tesco and there was a beer I wanted on the top shelf. Problem was, there weren't many left so they were all at the back of the shelf and I couldn't reach them......boo hoo.....perhaps I should have contacted the Sun and complained that this was clearly anti-short people and Tesco need to lower all their shelving.
Goes off to buy some platform shoes......(and a Ginger joke card).
No one is saying kids are not cruel I am just suggesting adults should have grown out of it.. I assume you dont act like a child and pick on people who are Tall, small, fat, thin, ear size, hair style, hair colour, face shape, upbringing, parents car, parents hair colour do you?
I 'pick on' all my mates. It's called banter. I'd not walk up to a stranger and start on them though.
Having said that, I just realised none of my mates are ginger so maybe I am a gingerist? I did have a couple of pints with OMITN the other week though. I was going to pick on him over his hair colour, but stuck to calling him speccy four-eyes instead.
😉 <-- ha, ha, look at the bald smilie
That card is rather funny.
What's even more funny is if Ms Phillips, of Dringhouses, York, is worried about people taking the p*ss out of her ginger haired offspring - it isn't going to get any easier once you've been all over the news and telly complaining about it.
Odds on she gets one sent to her in the post.
I'm pretty sure that the only people buying this card are the people who know that the recipient will find it funny.
Yep, I can't imagine anyone buying that card unless it was to send to a ginger person (iirc it was a single card - not boxed). And since Christmas cards are generally sent to friends/people you like, I think it's fair to assume that there would be no ill intent behind it - Christmas cards are not generally classed as "hate mail"
I was going to pick on him over his hair colour, but stuck to calling him speccy four-eyes instead.
And I still haven't got over it....
Mind you, I did get my own back, by sending you home slightly worse for wear and with the Manchester lurgy.
I'd say we were evens. 😀 (I'm not bald, it's alopecia)
The world has literally gone mad....it is quite clearly a JOKE. There is a huge difference between a joke Christmas card and bullying a child at school because of the colour of their hair.
I would buy that card for a ginger mate, because they'd laugh at it, it does not mean I would then go to my nearest playground and scream racial slurs at the kids.
That woman just proves, fat people don't have a sense of humour*
*This is a joke
Whatever Mr Magoo.
🙂 <-- wasn't going to put a smilie, but it annoys the baldies so i have to
No one is saying kids are not cruel I am just suggesting adults should have grown out of it.. I assume you dont act like a child and pick on people who are Tall, small, fat, thin, ear size, hair style, hair colour, face shape, upbringing, parents car, parents hair colour do you?
Yes, in a friendly jokey fashion with mates, as would be the case with the card. We're not all deathly serious all of the time. Personally I'd SEND the card to a ginger friend for that purpose. And they'd laugh out loud and send one back chuckling about my choice of car, or hairstyle etc etc. If I spotted someone "bullying" him for being ginger I'd stick up for him in every way possible. Life isn't black and white.
Whatever Mr Magoo.
Says a beardy weirdy.
Hah!
<---- colour of MT after too many local beers for local people. Obviously, in a non-prejudicial way, and without wishing to cause offence to any person or persons or self-identified group of persons (whether for self help purposes or otherwise) as the case may be and purely for illustration purposes only and certainly not in any way identifying green people as an out-group or otherwise disadvantage segment of our social order.
What about us
Our day will come.
Na, you baldies have already circulated genius rumours about it somehow being down to increased virility - you guys have nipped it in the bud and are sorted 😉
