Heading in for a few drinks this afternoon and the target is that new brewdog place which seems to be up by the arena. I know loads of decent pubs near the station but the top of the town centre is foreign ground to me.

Not a pub as such but north bar good - beers from all over the world, bottled and draught. Worth a trip

There's a brew dog bar too, on New york street, also headrow house on the headrow. Belgravia isn't bad too, though not so much a real ale bar.

Noth bar is definitely worth a visit, and there's a similar bar about 2 doors down, forget what it's called

The Reliance is good and just a bit further down the road from the brewdog.

Brewery tap near the station is good.

Ps I don't like friends of ham, lots of my mates do, though.

+1 for Veritas and the Victoria hotel, also.

Headrow House and the Social Bar on Mention Street are both nearby the Brew Dog shuffleboard place. Sandinista also have a few real ales on if you fancy it before it shuts down tomorrow.

Mstomhoward and I went to north bar, she fancied a cherry flavoured beer, so when she saw the label of one, she ordered 2 pints (1 each...), barman says that they are £4.50 a half (!). Mstomhoward says that's fine. £18 for 2 pints of beer....

Except it wasn't beer. It was cherry cider.
Mstomhoward hates cider
£18 for 2 pints of cider that she doesn't like.
This was 2 months ago, I'm still chuckling about it now

Town Hall Tavern would make a nice diversion then Victoria as a stepping stone back on track .

Up by the stadium - North Bar, The Reliance (great, if expensive food too) Belgrave.

A little bit further in town - The Palace, Friends of Ham, Victoria Hotel.

Don't bother with the brew dog place; was popular when it opened but the novelty has worn off and it's rarely busy.
North bar is ok; Reliance is best in that part of town and food is great - don't agree it's expensive as you get what you pay for.

Cheers all. Just had one in the brewdog place then went and hoovered up several slices of pizza in Belgrave.

I know you've been and gone but I do like friends of ham. A friend of a friend owns it so I popped in on his recommendation.
