MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
I have an old hackintosh install that I messed up a while ago (graphics kexts problems!) and I want to get some files off it. Before I used a trial of Macdrive, however this has expired and reinstalling another trial doesn't work - doesn't seem to recognise any mac-formatted HD is plugged in. I've tried HFSExplorer which is a free version but it doesn't seem to recognise any HFS formatted drives. I have the mac-formatted drive plugged in with the usual sata lead. Any ideas? I have Ubuntu on a usb I could run in live boot mode if that'd be any use?
I'd have a go with Ubuntu Tom:

You only need R/O access, sounds like it should Just Work*
*Note: haven't tried this myself.
Make an osx VM with virtualbox and mount the sata drive directly (pass through to the physical disk directly, read the mnausl)?
Tom- btw, it was this kind of shenanigans that finally made me shop about for a cheap, 2nd hand Mac.
Couldn't be annoyed with all the faff anymore- I'm typing this post on it right now.
Can't really justify the cost of a mac, I only use it for Final Cut to be honest. Haven't really missed it in the time I've not been using it, I still hate the mouse acceleration! Definitely a Windows user
Macdrive seems to be working now!
+1 for a Linux live CD. You'll struggle with Windows.
Ok but ive already tried a live Ubuntu boot so save your smuggery 🙂
