Got an Aeropress recently; really impressed! Going bike packing with it next week so would like to try to reusable filter as it's one less thing to worry about. Can anyone recommend one (ideally on Amazon Prime!) I see there are various different sizes of mesh available? Ta!
I have this one...

I haven't compared it to anything else (even the paper filters) but it works for me.
thanks, that one seems to get decent reviews too!
Aeropress is a bit bulky for bikepacking!

My thoughts too. "OK, so we've got this tube, looks nice and neat. Hmm, no-one's going to buy that. Let's stick a couple of great big hexagonal flanges on either end to make it look a bit more "engineered" then we can charge more for it!"
Then again the Yanks seem to manage to pack one (along with everything including the kitchen sink) on their bikepacking trips.
True, trying to get the GF into it though so decent coffee will help 😃
It is bulky but not heavy. Haven't actually done a test pack yet but I'm sure it'll be OK, especially as they'll be two of us now to spread around the cooking stuff, etc. I was thinking I'll probably store the coffee inside the Aeropress itself. Maybe I'll file down the flanges 😂

The shape stops it rolling off your worktop and the size stops it falling off the top of the cup.
You could make it smaller but then it wouldn't work on a mug. Also it only has a hexagon on one end.
the flanges stop it going into your cup!! How else would you do it????

Don't be coming on here with your sensible answers, no good will come of it.

Christ, and I was worried about the size of the aeropress!
I cut the corners off my last one still worked fine.
By the time you've stuffed the plunger with coffee and tea bags/ibstant hit chocolate. Theres not much wasted space.
On the subject of mesh filters minegets Blocked over time which involves caustic soda to restore it.
Next one will be a drilled type rather than mesh
opened the thread to make that comment ^ / get recommendations.
I have a fine mesh filter but it's almost unusable, you need the strength of Hercules to press it and I'm worried my best Brighton Big Dog mug is going to atomise under the force of my Herculean pressing.
Will have to give it a good clean with drain cleaner!!
Clicky been using the fine and ultra fine at work for a while. Perfectly useable and easy to rinse clean.
Been there...
"I wander if putting this much pressure on a wedge shaped funnel through the rim of this cracked mug wi...."
We have a drilled filter, got it 2 years ago seems fine.
Never taken it bikepacking. Prefer a coffee bag. Sacrilidge to some, but I am happy to forgoe the perfect coffee for the perfect sunrise every time. Yes I know I could have both, but I prefer less kit too haul about.
I know what you mean about the plunging. I am ok at 6 foot 3 but my other half struggles at 5ft 5 on a standard worktop .She sometimes uses a chair or puts it on the floor...I dare not laugh as she has clearly not had coffee yet...
I got a metal filter and I'm not keen, lets bits through. I cant be bothered to dig it out and see what type it is but it wasn't cheap.
I just re-use the standard paper filters, even at home. Just peel it off before ejecting the puck, rinse it and put on the end cap to dry. Lasts a few weeks, when camping I just take a couple of spares in case.
The 30 micron ones are about the right size, any bigger and they let stuff through.
I found that if they start getting a bit gunked up then putting them in the dishwasher works a treat
Happy enough with this one - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01ES9169W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's my second one as the first managed to get ejected into the bin with the grounds like a paper one by well meaning wife on it's first outing.
Actually not too fussed about it. A bike packing trips worth of paper filters will weigh the square of **** and probably take no more space. From an environmental perspective I don't know how many paper ones you need to use before it breaks even but it'll be a lot. And I don't think it tastes any better. I find the paper ones a load less faff - just eject it into the bin with the grounds and the aeropress is good to go. The metal filter always needs a bit of cleaning off and scrapping introducing unwanted grounds into the washing up etc. It's just easier with the paper imo.
Don't take mine camping, but I just rinse and reuse the paper filters, making sure I keep the coffee grounds side the same way. I get a good few uses before it needs changing if I'm careful. Just put it back in the cap and screw it on after its all been rinsed.
I have taken mine to the top of a couple of munros and several times bikepacking. I have less than 3 coffees per trip so only need 3 paper filters. They fit inside the plunger easily enough.
Appreciate size challenge but lots of other kit i have is small and light and good coffee is good coffee, especially as I tend to drink when camping 🙂
